Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Wade.
Hi Julia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I picked up a camera in 2008 when I moved to the Raleigh area. I wanted to make some new friends in a new state so I took some photography courses at a local college. I found I really liked taking photos, and I ended up with an internship with a local wedding photographer a few months later. I continued that education with a few additional mentorships and shot my first full wedding season in 2010.
I found a really lovely community in the wedding industry and now count these people as some of my dearest friends. I photograph weddings nationally and internationally and find a lot of joy in it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Photographing weddings is hard work. There have certainly been bumps in the road, but mostly it’s been a beautiful ride. Watching a wedding day from the front row is pretty exhilarating and then being able to deliver a product that memorializes that story forever is pretty special.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I certainly specialize in weddings, though my camera takes me to lots of places. I’ve recently photographed many interiors for local designers and architects and that has been really fun. One of my greatest joys is photographing my couples after their wedding when they’ve had their first child. There is nothing better.
I hope that I am known for beautiful and timeless imagery that feels cinematic and real. After shooting for so long, it occurs to me time and time again that what I deliver needs to be of heirloom quality. This is what I am after every single wedding.
