Meet Cory Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Adams.

Hi Cory, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a North Carolinian native local. I have learned many lessons in life but I have grown more within the past three years than I have the past 13.

When did you join Barstools & Dinettes and Why? I guess you could say that I have been with the company all of my life! I started out climbing on the mud pile that was made when they were building our current location. From there, I grew up crawling on the floors and exploring around the furniture in the showroom. Once I could walk, I started exploring all over the building. I can remember one time, when I was probably too small, I even ended up on top of a ladder in the warehouse! You know, just checking “inventory” right? From there, I would hang around the store and help out with picking up trash, sweeping, cleaning the bathrooms and throwing away cardboard when I could lift it.

I had some time apart from the store once the joy of playing baseball entered my life, however I still felt pretty involved. Because my parents would always bring me with them to the store when they could, I learned some very valuable life lessons. As I grew toward high school and college age, I became less and less involved with the store and more focused on sports and college. Although I did not necessarily see myself working with my family in the business when I was older, it began coming more apparent every day that this was a great opportunity.

This business was built by both my parents working as a team and accomplishing goals that I am sure most had imagined impossible. Honestly, how many people would have thought that a store that sells something as specific as barstools could ever survive the test of time! The amount of time and energy that was given by my parents to grow the business and provide for the family has been overwhelmingly influencing throughout my whole life.

It is the reason why they were successful and why I am so proud to be involved. Mom and Dad truly are my hero’s! Once I left college and came home, I was right back into the business. It has proved tough at times and extremely rewarding as well. I would not change any choices that I have made about returning, but most of that credit should go to my parents for never forcing and allowing me to make my own decisions!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a small business owner, our company has been heavily impacted by all of the recent hurdles that affect our everyday lives. A lot of companies have gone out of business, while new companies emerge with innovative concepts and ideas for ways to solve new demands and problems in our society. As we progress into 2021, companies involved in the consumer goods industry are impacted at many levels of the supply chain when it comes to acquiring and manufacturing various materials. Small, local businesses have always had to fight extra hard to create a name for themselves and gain loyalty and equity among customers.

It’s rare that you find a local business who stays true to who they are and what they do not just stay alive in the business world but thrive. As a small business owner, I have had to fight each and every day, just like the rest of us trying to make a living in this upside down world, and I won’t claim to fight harder, I just claim to know what I am fighting for. We, as a family-owned and operated business, work together everyday and believe that our products bring families together at the end of the day. That the product you find in our showroom reminds people how to converse with each other at a dinner table and connect on a level that we believe is a missing element in today’s society. Our products are proudly manufactured in the USA, Canada, and Mexico!

We are proud to offer North American made products from these builders to all of our customers so that they may come together as families and friends so that they may communicate and enjoy the company of others!
