Daily Inspiration: Meet Devin Curlings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Curlings.

Hi Devin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I always envisioned my future. The road wasn’t always paved for me. I watched my mother support three children, working two jobs while in nursing school after my father’s passing at a young age. I guess you could say this instilled a desire to succeed.

After over ten years in the hospitality industry throughout Virginia and South Carolina, I met my husband and took a step back to raise our son, be as present as possible. Even though I was grateful to be a stay at home mom and a military spouse, I craved something more. I needed to have control over my schedule and do something that I was passionate about but that allowed me to be creative yet help others. I found Real estate as a perfect combination of passion, flexibility, and contribution of income for my family.

I spent the first year of my career selling onsite in the community I lived in but realized quickly it wasn’t the place for me, I was looking to thrive in a fast-paced environment. I met my team leader, Gretchen Coley, through social media and it became a perfect match through collaboration and teamwork.

I stepped outside my comfort zone and discovered video marketing. “Lifestyle video” has given me the tools to help sell 35% of our homes off market and help better serve my clients. This style of video shows so much more than the home, we expand it to feature the lifestyle within the neighborhood and surrounding areas so consumers feel as if they are actually present.

Within two years of being a member of the Coley Group, I have experienced constant growth through increased sales, volume, and marketing outreach. Our recent move as the founding team of Compass Raleigh has been the “cherry on top” and I have recently been invited to join the Top Producers Council.

I am also a proud member of The Leading Ladies Networking LLC and extremely passionate about supporting women in business.

My drive to succeed and heart has set me apart and I owe it all to my life experiences that have made me who I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Selling in an onsite community my first year of real estate was far from easy. There was not a constant flow of traffic. When someone showed up, you would have a few minutes to put your A game on and close a deal on a golf cart in 30 minutes or less. To be a “community expert” without having closed sales was crippling at times.

After joining a top producing team, I not only had to learn and navigate a new market, I asked to take a step back and fill the role of The Listing Manager. This role required a lot of coordination, skill, and availability.

This was a pivoting point of my career. I got involved in the nitty-gritty of deals that I normally would not have seen. This role taught me so much in such a short period of time which I truly believe helped me excel.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a listing agent with The Coley Group of Compass. I specialize in new construction and resale listings.

However, I love helping buyers achieve their goal of homeownership!

My goal is to sell your home for the most about of money in the shortest amount of time. Through innovative marketing and strategic lifestyle video, we are able to sell our listings at an average of 107.6% of list price and 35% of our homes before they even hit the market.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I still sleep with my childhood stuffed animal, Olivia. I’ve moved a lot growing up and she was always a constant. I’ve contemplated putting her away but hey, normalize comfort!
