Conversations with Crystal Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Harris.

Hi Crystal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Mama’s Salsa started because I was looking for a creative outlet for myself. At the time I was a homeschool mom to two and I had just had my third boy a few months prior. I was struggling a lot with anxiety & I knew that if I had an outlet for doing something I loved it would alleviate some of my anxiousness.

I knew people would be interested in purchasing my chips and salsa because when I would have play dates with my other mom friends they would pay me to make authentic Mexican Food & I would send them home with jars of salsa.

Since the pandemic my solo this is his turn to a complete family business and I absolutely love it. My husband and I are able to stay home and homeschool our kids and run our business at the same time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the biggest thing is always trying to figure out a balance between motherhood, family life and business life. I’m not sure if you’ll ever really be able to find a balance. Each day brings new challenges and it’s up to us to determine how we will face them. Also during the pandemic I lost my father and it was probably one of the hardest times of my life. I wasn’t able to be with my family in California. We were just recently able to have a memorial service for him. Thankfully our business was able to continue running throughout the pandemic & I think the support from our customers really helped me during that time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Mama’s Salsa specializes in making fresh & authentic Chips & Salsa. I think I’m most proud of the fact that I get to run our business with my family. My boys get to see the ins & outs of building a business & we get to spend A LOT of time together.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I think one of the most important things that I’ve learned since starting this business is that I have something to offer people. And I think others have legitimate gifts to share with people as well. It doesn’t matter what state of life you are in or what setbacks you’ve faced if you really believe in your gift & are willing to put in the work you’ll be able to achieve whatever it is that you want.
