Check Out Kristi Van Zyl’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Van Zyl.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Always loved design and started this as a side business in 2013 after painting a few pieces for my home (fell in love!) My full time job was in the mortgage business and after getting married and having our first child in 2014, decided to take a plunge and left my 17 year corporate job to take it full time. Traded in my high heels and laptop for some flip flops & paint brushes and haven’t looked back!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working from home, the balance of being a Mom (we had our second child in 2016) and running a business. A challenge all working Moms face, but I won’t complain. The gift of being able to see them grow up outweighs the challenges.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Furniture restyling – meaning I take dated, high quality (mostly vintage as I admire the craftsmanship) pieces and repair (if needed), restore and modernize them. Whether it’s refinishing or painting, keeping the original hardware or replacing it with new, adding new legs or feet, painting or papering the interior, I love it all. I specialize in transforming an outdated piece into something unique, a statement piece.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Shy, loved to laugh (loved quick witted humor), loved animals. Still that way. Always loved and appreciated Art.
