Check Out Alison Hazinski’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Hazinski.

Hi Alison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career has been a long and somewhat winding journey. When I graduated with a degree in graphic design, jobs were scarce, so I fell into freelancing. I took pretty much any job that came my way and eventually decided to focus on wedding stationery. I loved the print production aspect of stationery, and I loved working with clients at such a happy time in their lives! As my wedding stationery business grew, so did the demand for my original artwork, to the point where almost all of my projects involved custom watercolor paintings. I was always pitching my customers’ cute little products with my artwork on them, so in late 2019 I decided to officially stop taking on wedding clients, and try my hand at creating original art and lifestyle products. This ended up being a bad time to pivot, as I had planned to launch my first official collection in March of 2020 – basically the week the world shut down. In a lot of ways, it felt like I was back to square one, taking on any projects that came my way, and trying to figure out where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. It was hard at the time, but I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to experiment and try new things without being too locked into anything. Now, I run One & Only Paper, and sell prints and lifestyle products not only in my own online shop but in 10+ boutiques across the country!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! I’m always so aware of my limitations, and how I don’t know what I don’t know. It can be a really lonely feeling to not be sure what the best decision is, and also not have anyone who knows my business like I do to ask for advice.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an artist and designer, and I work primarily in watercolor/gouache and digital art. I’d say the work I’m most known for at this point is my cheetah print designs, and I specialize in creating products that bring a fun, clever, and playful spirit to your outfit or home!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think there have already been some big shifts thanks to how crazy last year was! I think people are more focused on making their homes unique to them and somewhere beautiful and functional that they want to spend time in, and I think going forward there is going to be such a focus on gathering joyfully, and making the most out of the moments we now get to spend together.
