Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Foxx.
Katherine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for baking began when I was a child helping my mother in the kitchen. It steadily grew from there. Then while I was pregnant with my son, I started watching a lot of Food Network. I wasn’t able to do a whole lot while pregnant since several months prior I had been hit by a car that broke my foot. My foot required surgery, but since I was pregnant, I couldn’t have the surgery. So, I dove into watching baking challenges, Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss, etc… Then I began watching Pinterest tutorials and trying things out. I then started making cakes for family events and eventually, someone said I should sell my cakes, and thus FoxxSweets was born. I continued to grow my skills and even worked at a bakery for a period of time. Unfortunately, pay at a local bakery is not much to raise a family on and the lack of benefits with a small child wasn’t feasible. Now, I sell my goods out of my home while working a full-time position. My dream is to one day leave my current position and run a bakery of my own. I have also recently enrolled in the Waketech baking and pastry arts program in hopes to further grow my skill set and knowledge in the baking industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It by no means has been a smooth road and the road ahead is not paved either. Each order has its own unique challenges and struggles. The biggest is time management and getting everything done at a time that allows me to sleep. Another big challenge has been moving across the country. I am from California moved to Raleigh 5yrs ago. Building a customer base in a new state where you don’t know anyone is difficult. However, bar far the hardest challenge is juggling working full-time, being a mom, and growing a business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
FoxxSweets is a homerun bakery that specializes in custom: cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. We pride ourselves on customer service. Making everything from scratch, and creating that special moment for every type of event. We are also not just about the look, but the taste as well. We would like our customers to know that the limitations are the imagination. At FoxxSweets we believe that life deserves a little sweetness. We also believe in supporting our community. On several occasions, we have done events to raise money for a wonderful animal rescue called PIP’s (Perfectly Imperfect pups.).
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is seeing the delight on my customers’ faces when they see/taste my creations.
