Rising Stars: Meet Mavrick Vo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mavrick Vo.

Hi Mavrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hi, my name is Mavrick Vo, I’m an actor, stunt actor, director, producer, and vfx editor. Throughout my acting career, I started back in freshman year of high school doing theatre musicals from musical shows such as “9to5”, “Snow White & The Prince”, “Oliver”, and “Peter Pan.” Acting was one of my biggest passion and career choice that I wanted to do. Back in high school, it was the only program that I could get into, until one day our theatre director brought a special guest who is a stage fight coordinator who happened to be involved with Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.”

The fight coordinator taught us how to use stage sword combat which at the end of the day she talked to me and said “you are a real natural with stage fighting, have you ever thought of getting into action movies?” At that moment I knew it was my true passion and the reason why I love being an actor, the passion to act in an action movie. During my senior year of high school, I created a film company called “StreetNerds Productions” where we create action fan films or originals from video games, comic books, and anime! The company became a big success now that for 4 years we have finally got a YouTube partnership, and participated in a panel show at one of the biggest comic conventions in NC called “GalaxyCon!”

Even my journey in my acting career grew from not just working with StreetNerds Productions but with also other great NC film companies such as “Eaze Day Ent” playing a lead role name “Eren Jaeger” in their “Live Action Attack On Titan” film, “Black Dragon Productions” playing a lead role name “Casey Jones” in their TMNT fan series called “Pain 101!” Another upcoming project is working with a wonderful actress name Whitney Serauskas that we are both starring as Kitana and Liu Kang in “Mortal Kombat: Lotus.” For StreetNerds Productions we are working on the next episode of our original series called “The Argent Assassin” starring with me is Phil Lee, Murry Haithcock, Nicole Cates, Whitney Serauskas, Shaun Townsend, Kenny Williams, Cody Frey, and Imani Chew! The most exciting project currently I am also working on with StreetNerds Productions is our upcoming fan series “Power Rangers: Destiny.”

Power Rangers means so much to me because I have an audition for Nickelodeon Power Rangers two times from Beast Morphers and Dino Fury. Last year my audition with Power Rangers Dino Fury, I was very close to booking it with so many callbacks but unfortunately, I didn’t. Even tho after my audition with Power Rangers, I had so many Power Rangers fans and community that have supported me for years from watching my audition tape from YouTube, that even the fans have created “fancast” and theories on who I would play if I were in Nickelodeon Power Rangers.

Many of this fancast consist of playing “Red” or “the sixth special ranger” for some fans even had a vision of me playing a remake from the show of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”, which the character is “Tommy Oliver” the green ranger. Hearing that from the fans was a huge blessing and an honor because my role model is the actor who played “Tommy Oliver” is named Jason David Frank. For that motivation that the fans supported me and had my back, I decided to create a Power Ranger series to give the fans what they wanted to see! It was a huge honor to meet Jason David Frank as well and show him the power ranger film and he approved it! The rest of my acting journey so far is a huge blessing, working with so many talented people, and a huge honor to meet my role models!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There has been a lot of challenging things throughout my career from creating films that have so much budget to create great film content for StreetNerds Productions, and for my acting career trying to book one of my dream roles that I always wanted to accomplish in my childhood which is Power Rangers, but at the end of the day everything was figured out and alternate paths have been open for me with the fans support which got me here to this point playing a legendary character in the power rangers franchise “Tommy Oliver!”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a local actor in North Carolina but also the founder of StreetNerds Productions where we create fan films from video games, anime, and comic books! I was mostly known and recognize from my Nickelodeon Power Rangers auditions which had so much support from the Power Rangers fans and community and now playing “Tommy Oliver” in StreetNerds Productions Power Rangers Destiny.

What I’m most proud of is working with so many talented NC film companies such as Eaze Day Ent., Black Dragon Productions, Prophecy films, and working with wonderful actors and great chemistry such as Whitney Serauskas to collaborate and create a great film which the film is called “Mortal Kombat: Lotus.” I believe what separates me from others is creating these fan films in North Carolina that have very tactical and flashy martial arts fight scenes that we want to engage with the audience and fill them with huge excitement to see more!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During our process of creating films, I’ve found it very challenging due to canceling film days and events during this crisis but also our main priority is to make sure our team and cast are safe and follow the guidelines in order for us to create great contents which there is no rush to it, especially the times we are facing in the Covid-19 crisis.
