Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tory Wegner.
Hi Dr. Wegner, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
What does holistic medicine even mean? Growing up in a small rural Wisconsin town I had no idea because I hadn’t yet been exposed to holistic modalities beyond conventional medicine. When I was in college, I had the good fortune to meet an acupuncturist and worked in her clinic for a summer. I saw her patients feeling better without prescriptions and surgeries.
Once I saw firsthand that there were many different avenues to approach a health issue, I veered off the traditional career path of doctor or nurse and instead invested my studies into acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Completing a rigorous 4 years Masters Degree at Pacific College of Health and Science in California (2006). I have been a licensed acupuncturist in the Triangle area since 2006. I opened my own practice, Acupuncture Wellness Connection, LLC in Holly Springs in 2015 and went back to school to complete my doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 2017.
Most importantly, I’ve been using holistic medicine to help people overcome their health challenges ranging from infertility, fibromyalgia, headaches, stress, and anxiety, to everything in between. Providing a safe, gentle, effective, and time-tested way to help them feel better, improve their health, and have the quality of life they deserve so they can do the activities they love with the ones they love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While the road of a small business owner inevitably has some bumps, from each challenge I’ve always learned and grown as a person and as a practitioner. Making the necessary adjustments and improvements with the end goal always in mind of how to enhance the relaxing integrative experience for my patients.
The pandemic has been a challenging time; making sure I follow local guidelines, have stringent cleaning and scheduling protocols in place to keep patients and staff safe and remain open as safely as possible. The silver lining is that in the past year, I have had the opportunity to help so many patients dealing with stress, anxiety, and pains caused by all the uncertainty and unexpected struggles of homeschooling and working from home and having to suddenly pivot in major ways. Providing some balance and stability in a tumultuous time. I am very grateful to all my patients who continue to entrust in me and I love helping them feel better and find ways to cope with their own challenges and navigate the ever-changing landscape out there.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in infertility and Women’s Health. I’m one of the few practitioners in the state that has both a doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) as well as a Fellow of America Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (FABORM). I empower women to prioritize self-care, regulate their cycles, and start or expand their families. I also help people reduce chronic pain, headaches and stress/anxiety to live a better quality of life and take control of their health.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are family trips to Lake Superior. Walking the shoreline with my Grandma, looking for agates and other sparkly rock treasures that would catch our eye. The cool lake breeze causing goosebumps on my skin, the smell of leaves and trees in the air, and the crisp cold water on my toes. I think this is when my fascination with gems and crystals started, and why I enjoy incorporating them into my healing treatments.
