Daily Inspiration: Meet Tyree Frisby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyree Frisby.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up in North Philadelphia I always had a passion for sports. In a high crime rate city and dangerous environment where there were lots of killing and fighting to just survive, sports was the outlet that kept me safe and kept me focus from going down the wrong path. I got introduced to football at an early age where I had great coaches that I looked up to that impacted me to want to become a coach. I had multiple great coaches that taught me so much not just about the sport but about life, you can tell they loved what they did and didn’t mind taking that time to teach and excel.

I always had a passion for teaching kids even at a younger age and a passion for football, which led me to coach and goes hand and hand. Throughout my years as I got older I would gather kids around the neighborhood and organize practices and games and teach them the game of football and also giving them and outlet and something to do than being in the streets. Around 2010-2011, I was introduced to pop warner sport’s close friend who mentored and coach young athletes from similar living situations as your own. At that point in life, I found something more passionate than playing football which was coaching and mentoring, because I have actually seen myself make a difference and impact in the youth. I saw a bit of myself in every player. I wanted to give them as many opportunities that I never had. In 2012 and 2016 I became a father. I always told myself that I did want to raise my children environment that I grew up in and wanted safer and better opportunities for my children which is what led me to NC in 2016.

When I moved to NC I immediately began coaching with local parks and recreations in Cumberland and Harnett county. I also was an assistant coach for Harnett County Central Middle School. I felt like a lot of changes needed to be made in this area. I thought the best thing for me to do was start my own program Life Sports Athletics and Mentorship, Inc. What I saw in my area is that it was a disconnect between sports and the community.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all during this journey to get this organization up and running. When you are doing a business that involves community support and when you are trying to bring forth change and do things in a different way in an area that has never seen what we are trying to do, it is very difficult to do. The community involvement is little to none. It’s hard to get local businesses and owners to donate or sponsor our organization because in their “eyes’ we are not yet big. But, the community doesn’t realize the fact we have come this far in the business it is “big.”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner of Life Sports Athletics and Mentorship, Inc. I also coach for my organization. Our Mission at Life Sports Athletics and Mentorship is to mentor youth by teaching building, and evolving them to be better by gaining life skills through sports to help them grow and make a positive impact in everyday life from home to the classroom and the community. We currently have 10u Tackle Football Team, 7u flag football team, and Field/Competition Cheer programs. As we continue to grow we want to add more sports to the program such as track/baseball eventually open up a sports facility.

What sets you apart from others? I am humbled and blessed to say that I have found my purpose and calling and is walking in the path that was destined for me. It is not too many people

We have sports youth from 3 years of age to 16 years of age Football and cheerleading at the moment and is hoping to add more sports as we grow.
