Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Jordan Hubbard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Hubbard.

Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. I thought about dermatology, anesthesiology, and other specialties like that until I also realized my passion for entrepreneurship. I settled on dentistry in college after shadowing many dentists through my education journey. My father is a dentist, and I grew up in his office. At age 12 I had a job at his office filing charts and cleaning rooms. While I loved what he did, and knew a lot about the business, it really wasn’t until I got older and saw more of the “big picture”, as well as how other dentists practiced, that I decided on dentistry for myself.

Not only did I want to be “the boss” and help people in the process, I wanted to be a mother and be with my kids. I knew that doing something like anesthesia would place me on an “on-call” timeline and leave me at the mercy of hospital schedules. Dentistry, especially if I owned my own practice, would afford me a more flexible schedule- one where I could be the business owner and have a fulfilling career while simultaneously getting the opportunity to have the motherhood role I dreamed of.

After working hard and graduating in just three years from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, I went on to graduate with my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. I started as an associate in the beginning of my career until I found a practice to call my own. I now own my own practice and employ my father, Dr. Greg Komyathy, as my associate. Talk about coming full circle! I see patients two days a week and get to spend the other days at home with my two boys, Beckett and Wells. I am living out the dream I had as a girl, and I couldn’t be more proud of all I have accomplished.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to become a dentist isn’t easy. Even though I knew this is what I wanted, there were two instances in dental school when I seriously thought about walking away. I am not the type of person to quit something and to even contemplate it was a big deal for me. Dental school is an emotional, physical, and mental rollercoaster. I had to always remind myself, “if it were easy, everyone would do it!”. I will spare you the details, but somehow, with the help of amazing friends, my supportive family, an amazing boyfriend turned fiancé turned husband, and of course, God, I made it through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My practice has been serving patients in Pinehurst for more than 35 years. As the newest owner, I am excited to carry on the legacy of treating patients with the latest technology and research while remaining a patient-centered practice. We treat every person who walks through our doors as family, and that to me is the most important thing we do. We also have a passion for laser dentistry. We currently have a few lasers in our practice, the most notable being our SOLEA laser. The SOLEA is a hard and soft tissue laser. It allows us to do fillings without the traditional drill and shot-free (yes you heard that right!). We can also do things like frenectomies, and other gum procedures with it, again, shot-free. Lastly, there is a treatment it can do to help reduce and sometimes eliminate snoring. It is such a great addition to our practice and truly sets us apart. Our patients love it, and people come from near and far to have this new experience.

I am currently in the process of branding our office, and our new name and logo will be released, soon!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Keeping my relationship with God at the forefront of whatever I choose to do is what helps me stay grounded, centered, thankful, and humble.
