Today we’d like to introduce you to Arielle Schechter.
Hi Arielle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Sustainable design combining elegance and livability, homes designed by architect Arielle Condoret Schechter command attention with long, clean lines and seamless integration into the environment. Her design inspiration comes from a vast pool of experience and travel to Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan, and those experiences have empowered her to be bold and push boundaries. Born in Algeria, Arielle credits her parents for passing on a love of the arts which led her to study at the Juilliard School followed by architecture school in NC. Her North Carolina-based firm and the designs she produces are a testament to her rich background and appreciation for a wide variety of cultures and arts.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I started my own business in 2009 at the height of the recession! When work was sparse at the beginning, I started designing my Micropolis© houses (small artful houses), which I was originally only doing for my own interest. But they caught the attention of others and were published around the world. So a hard time became an opportunity!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
If I have a niche, I guess it would be net zero houses that are sustainable but also have good aesthetics and livability. Because the planet is in a crisis state due to climate change, I believe strongly that sustainable buildings are the only way to build.
What does success mean to you?
Waking up to interesting jobs every day is how I define success and also showing my clients they can have a cool house that also helps cut their energy use and carbon footprint makes me very happy.
