Today we’d like to introduce you to Nomeka Tyson.

Hi Nomeka, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Nomeka Tyson I am happily married with 5 children. Ages ranging from 8 to 23yrs old! I started styling hair at a very early age for my family. I particularly remember styling my grandmother’s hair all the time. We would try new trending hair styles and I remember my grandmother always being so excited to get her hair done and it would always make her feel so happy and confident I could tell! Just doing that for her, did something for me! It’s the reason why every head I touch I’m not just styling hair, I’m doing my best to find that happy confident place for every client. So when they leave they not only look good but also feel good and confident about the style they received meaning it’s manageable for their everyday lifestyles.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been “smooth”. But I feel like we all create our own bumps in the road and mine have been like mountains! Like I mentioned earlier I have 5 children and I feel like they are doing very well although most of my oldest kids’ lives I was working 2 jobs and in beauty school while dad stayed home and took care of “home” including cooking, cleaning, etc., emotional support, whatever we needed him for… I mean it was not easy but we are here now and still making it! We are also very humble and spiritual people and know that our Higher Power will carry us through as long as we stay consistent and persistent! My husband helps me out a lot with my business, he’s kind of a handyman and can fix almost anything! So this has helped out so much throughout the years with some repairs that were needed in the business! Financially, as a small business owner, finances has always been a struggle I feel like because to the banks we are too small and under qualified to qualify for bigger loans to grow our business but all at the same time they make it so difficult to qualify. My main struggle right now is trying to expand and grow my business. I can’t get anyone to understand that if I expand my business to a larger location, I could hire qualified cosmetologist, barbers, nail techs etc. I know these, people I service them! Let me help them, while I’m also helping myself! So yea even with a business plan in hand, “that” is a struggle!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed cosmetologist and I specialize in providing healthy natural hair care solutions for everyone! I am known for my wealth of knowledge in natural hair care and loc start-up and maintenance. I provide healthy hair care services for the whole family. Once I consult with my client, I not only create a style that I know they will love, but also a style that we came up with together to benefit their everyday lifestyles. I am so proud of the level of creativity I was blessed with! Sometimes I surprise myself! I feel like the one thing that sets me apart from the rest is my sincerity and passion for what I do. I’m sincere to the point to where I need to know exactly what my clients want and expect and then my passion takes over! Because I love what I do and my clients tell me all the time that they can see that!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
So first of all, over the years, I have determined that consistency is key. Also one of my mentors that was provided to me through a grant program from my local community college (a program I am so thankful for, I gained a multitude of knowledge to help me grow my business!) he helped me come up with my company core values! Which are 1. Passion- We think about and obsess over ways to make you look your best.
2. Client Satisfaction-Everything is personal, professional and genuine. We treat every client like they’re our only client.
3. Motivated- From touching hair to touching hearts, we want you to be our client for life.
4. Faith-based and Diverse- God is good and we value everyone, come on in.

The Satisfaction of my clients Motivate the Passion in me to be as creative as I want to be and for that I am thankful! I care for all my clients exactly the same way I would want to be treated during such a personal service!
