Rising Stars: Meet Shame Gang of Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shame Gang.

Hi Shame, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started doing music back in 2012 seriously but always wrote music and poetry when I was a kid in my teens. I was injured by a work accident in 2012 and that’s when I started to focus more on the music side. I had a total of 9 surgeries to the lower parts of my legs. I got to where I’m at today when I officially moved to NC in 2015. I started out doing open mics and showcases around the cities and building my name up the old fashion way until I created a buzz. Since then I have toured many states alongside Wutang Clan, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Conway The Machine, The Lox and Slum Village. Released my sophomore album No Safe Haven and got to work with many musical legends along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it’s never been a smooth road I remember sleeping in my car some nights after shows and sacrificing my way of living for this dream because I wanted to do this full time. I’ve been told a lot of times but it has never stopped me from pushing forward. I believe that’s what made me stronger.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a rap artist and writer. I specialize in making music and channeling my story into songs that can touch people I’d like to say. I’m known for being a lyricist and content creator I’m very particular about my rhymes and what comes out of my mouth. I am most proud of my longevity and will to grow. I feel like I get better and better. I’m never afraid to challenge myself and I think my music sounds different from others I like sounding different I don’t want to ride waves. I am also proud to be traveling the world doing what I love to do and sharing stages with artist I grew up listening to, it’s a dream come true

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Always stay working and never take no for an answer. It’s gonna be times when you don’t feel like recording or rehearsing but those are the times that you need to. Because when u take a day off remember there is somebody else who isn’t
