Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Reedy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I, Ryan Reedy, 39 years of age, have been a business owner, music producer, recording engineer, guitar/bass, and vocal teacher for close to 20 years having moved through multiple recording studios throughout my 20+ year career. I am happily married to Kit Reedy, aka my wife, my perfect counterpart for our wedding cinematography and photography business. I have always had a passion for documenting my life through videos and photos. It’s truly an obsession really as I have filmed and photographed our lives every year since we first met to this very day. I have categorized them all perfectly in order.
A fellow musician who had recorded an album with his band at my recording studio asked if I would take pictures of his engagement and wedding. He liked the pictures I was posting to social media at the time. I was stunned to think someone thought my work was good enough for their wedding. I was totally unprepared, not ready for the oncoming storm but as usual, I went into it blindly. My wife and I watched every wedding film and photography BTS that we could. The rest is history.
Since that wild rollercoaster of a first-time wedding without any experience, my wife and I entered the wedding world. We booked three more weddings in the same year as a result of that 1st wedding. Then it doubled to six weddings the second year and then triple that on the 3rd year at 19 weddings for the year. We do not know what the future holds but we just continue to stay focused on creating wedding films that stand alone in the saturated crowd of wedding films and photography.
We do this by incorporating many “scenes” that we direct that break the 4th wall to create something more personal to our couples than the average, generic, “Hit Record & Watch” films that are out there.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with each person’s life in this world, there are always struggles to learn from and overcome. We have had to overcome many failures, personal loss, many hours of studying and learning from bad financial decisions, family members passing away, you name it and we have experienced it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the moment we specialize in directing, filming, editing wedding films, modeling cinematics as well as commercials for businesses, families, friends, bands, and more. We are photographers for all of those as well. We are most known for our “Breaking the 4th Wall” moments in our wedding films and for our “Runway In Motion” modeling cinematography. We are most proud of these scenes throughout our portfolio.
These scenes include “Parting The Red Sea” which is basically the camera breaking an entire crowd of people apart to reveal the bride and groom kissing at the end of the crowd and closing it back up by pulling the camera back out. Other scenes include talking directly to the couple via the film or creating other scenes that are in a 4th wall-breaking moment.
These add a more personal element to the films that many other wedding filmmakers and cinematographers do not do. Our modeling cinematics is another element that separates us from many others as we take pride in constant camera motion throughout the course of our modeling cinematics.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was active in creating anything artistically. Drawing, building, playing guitar, recording music, composing music, teaching others, I am an extrovert, intuitive, feeling, judgmental personality type to the core. An ENFJ personality type.
I live in the moment, always creating something, trying to be unique and different from everyone else around me. Absolutely driven by obsession, absolutely love working and grinding with a passion that is unstoppable. I love people, relationships, introverts, and helping others learn anything that I can teach them. I am a sinner that is absolutely not perfect at all, I make plenty of mistakes and will continue to do so until my death.
I am thankful to God for each day, a husband, a father to my wonderful son, and a lover of video games which happens to be the only hobby that I have not turned into a career.
