Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Cole.
Hi Jenn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Originally from Ohio, I moved to North Carolina to go to college at Elon. After graduating with a degree in Sports Medicine I went to UNCCH to get my nursing degree. My first day of clinics at Duke was September 11th, 2001. That day changed my path and I ended up working as a manager in restaurants which I loved. After my first child was born I wanted to do something that used my same skill set of problem-solving, communicating with different teams to make the customer experience great, and interacting will all different types of people. I felt like real estate was going to be a great fit with fewer late nights so I could spend more time with my family.
In 2008, I got my real estate license and the market crashed all in the same week. Looking back this was the best time to learn because I didn’t know any differently and had to work hard for my clients to help them be able to sell their homes with standing out against so many other homes for sale. I was working for a large local brand at the time and learned so much. After my first year in real estate, I began working with a start-up firm and helped develop it into a brand with five locations and eventually partnering with a national brand. While fine-tuning by the individual office I learned that I love small and personal when it came to a real estate brand.
After many brainstorming sessions with my two current business partners, Jane Ball and Jill Booth, we launched Be Home Realty, a boutique firm serving Wake and Johnston counties since 2015.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t believe that there is such a thing as a smooth road, but I think that every drive is always worth it. I think being open to trying an idea will always make some type of impact. It may not be the final result that you originally thought would happen, but it is cool if the result is close and magical when it works!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Be Home Realty is a boutique real estate firm. We like to say that we are small but mighty. We take pride in having strong agents who work hard and support each other and push each other to become better every day.
Since our start in November 2015, we have closed over 1500 transactions. We pride ourselves in our local knowledge and the relationships that we build. The most unique feature of our office is our connection with honeybees. When we created the logo for our brand we added a pop of color with a bee at the top of it. We connected with the fact the hive is a home and that bees work together for a common goal. Gifts from our friends and clients started pouring in, all bee-related. A year after our opening we decided to add beehives at the office. We have an observation hive in our front window and a huge box hive on our rooftop. We harvest around 60 pounds of honey a year and give that honey away as part of our closing gifts.
Also, when our clients close on a property we have them add their thumbprint to the hive painted on our wall and add their initials and close date for their wings becoming an official part of the hive!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The real estate market is hot right now in the Triangle and I don’t know that we will see a downward trend or a plateau for several more years. There are many companies moving to the area as well as many people relocating with the “working from home” trend allowing people to live anywhere. There are always new ways to buy a home or sell a home, especially as technology advances so we are seeing different options when it comes to buying a selling.
It’s good to have options available for convenience, but I think the personal touches and advice to navigate a complex purchase will always keep Realtors as a resource that people are looking for.
