Community Highlights: Meet Argentina Harris of Styles on Top Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Argentina Harris.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a licensed cosmetologist since 1997. I started out working in commercial salons and I have since worked in a variety of settings in the beauty industry, including as a mobile stylist. Early on in my career, I began to see a growing number of women sit in my styling chair who were faced with hair loss. Around 2006, I started creating custom wigs and selling them to my salon clients as an option to dealing with hair loss.

In 2019, I created what is now known as the 60 seconds Clip N Go Hair Topper™ as a way to deal with my own hair thinning issue. Soon people had filled my inbox with requests for the hair topper. It wasn’t long before women were wearing the 60 seconds Clip N Go Hair Topper™ and sharing their praise and gratitude for the experience of their new unit. Early 2020, I decided to get serious about offering the hair units on a larger scale in an effort to reach as many women as possible, hence the name, The 60 seconds Clip N Go Hair Topper. Women with permanent hair loss have limited options when it comes to hair replacement and I wanted to be a solution for a problem that will continue to plague our aging community.

Although both women and men are affected by hair loss, women deal with greater stigma and therefore suffer scrutiny amongst their peers and society. Many of my customers have provided positive feedback about their experience wearing the hair topper and have become repeat customers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This process has not been difficult at all. Knowing my target market and understanding their needs has helped me tremendously throughout this journey. The market is wide open for new and innovative options for treating and concealing hair loss.

Many of the techniques used today have been around for a while and beauty professionals have had opportunities to personalize those techniques for their clients. Some wigs and most hair replacement solutions can only be installed by beauty professionals but few allow women the opportunity to do it yourself (DIY). Challenges I have faced along the way come by way of making improvements to the hair units while keeping them cost-effective for the customer. Each hair unit consists of the highest quality materials, attention to detail, but finding materials can sometimes present a problem. Marketing has been a bit of a challenge in the age of social networking and during a pandemic.

Like most other businesses I have had to transition to doing business predominantly online and while that transition is slightly familiar, that in-person beauty experience has been missed. I recently completed a trademark application for the 60 seconds Clip N Go Hair Topper™ and currently awaiting its approval.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Styles on Top Beauty, LLC started out as Styles on Top Wigs & Hair Salon. I recently changed the name because I wanted it to be inclusive of many different things and not just about making and selling wigs and styling hair. I wanted to incorporate beauty and wholeness on all levels of the business. I think overall beauty is more than just your appearance, it is also the way you see yourself and how you feel on the inside. I wanted to make Styles on Top a beauty brand and symbol of hope and resolution for women everywhere. I specialize in providing women with hair loss alternative beauty solutions in the form of custom hair toupees. I am known for creating beautiful, undetectable custom wigs but I have recently transitioned to only creating custom hair toppers.

What sets me apart from others in this industry is my niche product. I have designed and create unique hair units for women that can be attached to their natural hair and provide covering of bald or thinning areas of the scalp. These units can be installed, styled, and maintained in the comfort of their own home. Clients can choose from an array of styles, colors, lengths, and textures and have the unit made using custom measurements that meet their specific needs.

I am most proud that my customers know and believe in my brand. They trust in the value and quality that it adds to their life. I am proud that my custom hair toppers greatly boost and improves the confidence of the women who wear them. I want your readers to know that there are still beauty professionals in the industry who care about meeting their needs. Although I no longer work in the salon, I am still fully invested in the well-being of women and will continue working to provide products and solutions for their beauty needs. When there’s hair loss, sometimes the last place you want to be seen is the hair salon so I create custom hair units for women that can be installed and used in the comfort of their homes.

I work to provide hair products that restore dignity and respect to those who felt it was no longer possible. I’m currently in the planning stages of adding outreach by way of counseling, coaching, and nutrition services for women who are suffering from various forms of hair loss.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Wow! This is a loaded question! Where do I begin??? I would have to say that the most important lesson I have learned has been to fail, fail, fail! I’ve learned that it is the only way to grow. I have made so many mistakes due to a lack of good judgment and decision-making skills.

There were times when I didn’t speak up for myself or move in the best interest of my business. On the other hand, there have been many missed opportunities because I failed to follow my instincts and take risks at the right time. But as I look back over this journey I realize how much I have learned and grown through my failures. Each great lesson I learned came at the end of a successful failure therefore, I don’t regret any of the decisions that I’ve made.

Those decisions have empowered me and strengthened me to continue along on this journey.
