Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Maynard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been someone who loves and appreciates art. I remember as a little girl, coloring anytime I could. As a young adult straight out of high school, I continued that passion as I picked up a camera. I would take photos of anything I saw inspiring and held importance to me. I began to travel the world as a missionary and I would document my adventures along the way.
I stayed with tribes in Panama and spent time on the beach in Costa Rica. It was an amazing opportunity for me to see beauty and art, where most people would see misfortune. Fast forward to after I was married and had my son, I started taking photos of him. That led to others asking me to take photos of them, which led to a business. I decided to take a night class so I could learn the basics of photography and know as much information as possible about my hobby turned side business. I started shooting weddings in 2016 and I was shortly able to quit my job and transition into a full-time wedding photographer.
I have shot countless weddings and have met so many amazing people along the way. I feel so blessed for where I am and for what I do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any journey, there are bumps in the road, but honestly, I am really blessed that it has been mostly smooth for me. I have a very supportive husband that cheers me along every step of the way. I really invest in getting to know my couples before they sign a contract so we know we are a good fit for each other. And I really go above and beyond to make sure my clients are happy at the end of the day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer that focuses on genuine moments and emotions. I lean towards a photojournalism type of approach to my weddings. I will be there for direction when and if needed, but I am mostly there to capture every special moment (big or small) of that special day. I want to be a calming presence for my couples while affirming them on how amazing their special day is. My goal is for my couples to love their photos for years to come so I do not try to edit too trendy. I lean more towards the feel of the film in a more modern way. I feel like I’m more on the moody side of portraiture but I see it as emotional art. I want someone to feel something when they look at one of my images.
Something I take pride in is how comfortable my brides say I help them feel on their wedding day. When they are comfortable with me, their images will reflect that. They will remember how they felt in that moment and (hopefully) love reminiscing over their day when I deliver their gallery.
I believe I have my own style of shooting and editing that sets me apart. I believe have created a timeless editing style that still reflects true colors. I also feel like Ive developed the ability to capture the emotion that the viewer can feel. through the image. I feel like anyone can be a photographer, but when you start staying true to who you are, you develop your own personal style. This is something that has taken me until very recently to step into myself.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
