Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Harper Huntington.
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
On March 25, 2019, I got the news that shook my world. My mom’s cancer was back and with a vengeance. The oncologist was giving her 2 to 6 months to live but I wasn’t there. Mentally, I was already formulating a strategy. After getting my mom settled at home I phoned my boss, the CMO of a software company in Durham, to resign. If my mom only had months left, I was going to spend every possible moment I could with her. Sadly, she only lasted a month.
As the dust settled, I looked around in my grief and tried to make sense of a future without my mom. I took inventory of my life and asked myself how I wanted to feel in my career. It was pretty clear that I was no longer interested in corporate marketing. And if I was really being honest, I never had been. In 20 years, it had never been my passion. From then on, I made a promise to myself to pursue my passions — teaching, speaking, training, mentoring, and coaching.
After hearing Sarah Centrella, Master Life Coach and Best-Selling Author, on a podcast I decided to enroll in her certification process to become one of her personally trained coaches. She instantly became a mentor to me and we worked together to fast-tracked my training. I launched my independent coaching business in January 2020 just before COVID-19. At first, it seemed like a terrible time to launch a new business but I see now that I was blessed with a unique opportunity to help the very community to which I wanted to be of service.
Over the past two years, I have held #Futureboard workshops for hundreds of women quarantined at home, who needed something fun and exciting to dream about during a global pandemic. I have career coached countless others who have been displaced by a virus that disproportionately impacted women in the workforce. I have counseled them on relationships that were strained by the weight of work from home and virtual schooling. Alongside them, I set goals to work off the COVID-19 nineteen pounds we gained!
All the while reminding us– If your story doesn’t inspire you, it’s time to change it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My entire business can and is done on Zoom. But after a while people start experiencing Zoom fatigue, me included! I always expected to be able to balance out weekly online sessions with in-person networking events. Not being able to do in=person networking events the first 17 months of my business was been a real hindrance. Now that things are opening back up, I hope to get on more of a speaking circuit!
Businesses can have me come in and do a #Futureboard workshop where I teach the group the basics of manifestations, the neuroscience behind visualization and why top CEOs use it, and how to use Pinterest to take their practice to the next level!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Women are nurturers. We’re caregivers. We put others’ needs first. Somewhere along the way, we lose a little bit of ourselves. I’m here to help us find the way back.
I empower women to boldly step into the life of their dreams. We start by identifying what it is they truly want and then create a plan to go from where they are to where they want to be. The feedback I consistently get from clients is that I help them feel calm and confident.
In terms of what’s coming, I think it is important to note that I’m working on something REALLY EXCITING with best-selling author and Master Life Coach Sarah Centrella! We’re bringing her trademarked HBR Life Coaching method to corporations across the country. Companies are looking for new and innovative ways to engage and retain employees and they realize that happy, fulfilled people make happy, fulfilled, and high-performing employees. The training will initially be offered to Wellness/HR programs in small groups for 10-week training programs.
This is especially valuable for companies located in Wake, Orange, and Durham Counties that are interested, because as a trained Centrella Co. HBR (TM) coach, I can do the weekly session in-person as opposed to virtually. We will be soft-launching with beta clients in 1Q22 so stay tuned but more information can be found on that website, www.centrellaco.com.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Ultimately what matters most to me is love. I am here for love. I think Glennon Doyle says this. And I’m probably stealing this from her, but she’s right. I want to put love out into the world. I want to feel loved back. I want to be love. I want to witness love. I want to see love grow and grow and grow until it overpowers all the hate and vitriol and trolling and spewing. I think love is winning, I really do. It’s like the dawn, just about the break.
