Community Highlights: Meet Kitoko George of Nina Esque

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitoko George.

Hi Kitoko, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had terrible acne as a child. I was bullied and didn’t know how to clear it up. Makeup has been the go-to to cover up my flaws. 8 years ago, I became an Esthetician I’ve worked department stores, spas, and waxing centers until I wanted to step out on my own.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road! I’ve faced many challenges that came to destroy me. My first week of starting Esthetician school my son was turning 1. Still to this day I’m looked at differently because I choose to pursue my dreams and be a mom! My very first suite I had to leave behind due to my family feeling as if I should just have a “stable” job because I have a child, this led to self-doubt and I gave in put my dreams in the back of my mind. For a few years, I worked jobs that weren’t in my field. Those were very miserable years. 3 years ago, I was fired from 2 jobs within 7 months. After I was fired from the first job, I was very lost & confused. I’ve always been a great employee. Thoughts of being an entrepreneur again started to resurface but I didn’t completely follow through because I was scared. 2 months later I started another job, worked overtime every day. A few months of working I interviewed for a higher paying position & didn’t get it. This made me really upset, now I was just going through the motions of life. Months later I was fired! That day I decided I was never going to give a job my all again! My living/dining room was turned into a spa hence our tag line (A Spa House). I felt having a spa in my house was very tacky but I had to start somewhere & couldn’t afford rent & suite rent. Clients started to book appointments & I felt really confident! Well like any spa, I experienced clients not showing up. I freaked out & started working again. I couldn’t be flat broke again but I didn’t want to forget my dreams. This time I worked 2 jobs. I started buying supplies, building a website & rebranded my Skincare Line.
