Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem Vance Jr.
Hi Kareem, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
The way I got started with the film was me wanting to help my younger brother with his high school football recruiting. I understood that coaches wanted to see film of the athletes and since I would be at all his games, I thought why not start trying to make his highlights.
I am a former football player for Mississippi State, I had just graduated and my brother was going into his senior year of high school when I first started which was the fall of 2018. As I was filming football games, I had an old classmate who was doing music at the time and asked if I could come to record him in the studio. I didn’t think much of it, I went and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. He loved the video, and through him knowing other artists, more and more artists started to contact me about shooting them a music video.
After two years of building my portfolio, I decided to quit my full-time job and focus completely on my film business. I have worked with some top artists in the music industry and also some top athletes in professionals sports. It has taken me places I have never been and I have met people that I never thought I would’ve met.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting out, there were ups and downs like there are for all businesses. I had to learn to manage my money even better because it is a big difference when you’re coming from getting paid every two weeks to multiple times in one week. Also, promoting my business more successfully. There would be those times where you may be overbooked one week to not booked at all the next week.
Through all the struggles, this year has been the smoothest and I have been having consistent clientele. I never saw myself ever doing this type of work to provide for me and my family but financially everything has been great.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
On the music video side, I go by KV Productions. I shoot music videos, vlogs, interviews, and also do photography. I am known for mainly shooting music videos. I am proud to see how far I have come in such little time.
On the sports filming side, I go by BigPlay Films where I film sports highlights and documentaries and we also offer sports photography as well. I have a YouTube Channel for both KV Productions and BigPlay Films. I have had over 1 million youtube views throughout my time of building my portfolio.
What sets me apart from others is that I make sure my clients get what they were wanting. I go over and beyond to make sure they received a great finished product. I have worked with professional athletes such as Dak Prescott and artists such as Asian Doll also.
How do you define success?
For me, success is about doing my job well. I want to be recognized as someone who always does their best and tries the hardest to achieve their goals. When I work with a client and they are happy about their finished product, I consider that a success. Also making a living doing something you love.
