Conversations with Kristin Page

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Page.

Hi Kristin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always loved photography, so after I took a photography class in college, I decided to start my own business in 2012. For the first several years, I had a full-time job and did photography part-time specializing in weddings, maternity, and newborn photos. When I got fired from my full-time job in late 2018, I had no desire to find another full-time job and decided to give full-time photography a shot. 2019 was so hard, but I managed to get through it and at the end of the year, I was able to apply for my own apartment and moved in December 13, 2019. Since I didn’t have a full-time job, I was able to travel for a few weeks in June 2019 and did sessions in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Originally, I had the idea to shoot my first boudoir session on this trip so naturally, I did a model call to get some content for it. I had never done boudoir before and really had no interest in it before this point, so I was amazed that I loved it. After this, months went by and I didn’t really think about boudoir again, that is, until February 2020 when I suddenly decided I wanted to specialize in couple’s boudoir. I had a fellow photography couple tell me they would help me out and be my models. I had chills this entire shoot and was amazed how good it felt. Of course, after this is when Covid hit and suddenly I couldn’t meet with any potential wedding, maternity, or newborn clients and had no way of making money. I was lucky to pick up some work with Shipt (grocery delivery) and Door Dash, which were of course very popular at the start of the pandemic. It was also during this time that I had a random phone call with the woman who would become my business mentor. This phone call inspired me to create my private Facebook group for women. When I was starting the group, I did a giveaway to try to attract people to the group so I made a Tiktok about the giveaway and got nearly 1000 women in my group. While the session giveaway was for any session, I suddenly had woman after woman ask me about doing boudoir. Before I knew it, I was completely booked up for the next several months with boudoir sessions and the rest is history. By October of 2020, I made more in one month than I made in the entire year of 2019. Boudoir really came into my life completely unexpectedly and turned my life upside down in the absolute best way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running my own business is by far the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. From the outside, it may seem like I have it easy. I get to sleep in, take breaks whenever I want, take vacations whenever I want without having to ask for permission, get to work from home, and best of all, I get to do something I truly enjoy. While all of these things are true, it is such a drastic change from having a structured work schedule and getting a stable paycheck every two weeks (or week or month). Owning your own business means if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. If your clients fall into a hard place and can’t pay you for a month, you don’t get paid either. A major obstacle I come across more often than I would like is that people don’t really consider a small business to be a “bill” or a priority of things to pay. This has been a huge obstacle for me, but thankfully it doesn’t come up that often. Learning to run a business all by myself and being single-handedly responsible for each and every part is difficult, but completely worthwhile.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a boudoir photographer which means my focus is showing women how to be more confident, sexy, and love themselves, no matter what size they are. I also photograph couples and love to capture that intimacy. Boudoir photos can be innocent, sweet, sensual, sexy, naughty, or erotic. I would say I am unique because I am completely comfortable with any level of intimacy in photos. Also, I run a private Facebook group with over 1500 women where I encourage women to work on their self-love and self-confidence and also share my personal life so they know who I am, and not just someone behind a computer screen or camera. I share my personal experiences with my group and as someone who has struggled with their weight and self-esteem my entire life, I feel like I can really relate to the members of my group. When a woman comes in for her session, she knows she can trust me and that comfort level can absolutely be seen in photos, especially since trust is so important when you’re taking off most/all your clothes in front of someone. I am most proud of the community I have created and when people come to me and tell me I’ve changed their life for the better, it is truly the most rewarding thing ever. I am incredibly lucky to have a career/business where I have the power to change women’s lives.

What matters most to you?
What matters the most to me is the way I make someone feel about themselves. If someone doesn’t think they’re beautiful or worthy before meeting me and I can change that, that means the world to me. After all, how many people have this kind of influence? It is so special and incredible.
