Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Mercado.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It stared when I was 15 I received my first point and shoot camera, I played with it for a awhile and felt comfortable behind the lens, then at 16 I was gifted my 1st dslr Nikon camera, sometime after that I shot my first wedding in Mexico, I would do photoshoots for family members and friends for practice, id do free creative photoshoots to see what style I liked and what I saw I could improve at.
eventually as time went by found myself doing more and more photography to the point where I had to have my camera with me because I like the idea of creating memories. people eventually would reach out to me because they would see my work and would hire me for their special events.
I would attend workshops because I wanted to invest in myself and the business that I was slowly crating.
I would get hired to do quinceañeras, newborn baby pictures, birthdays, proposals etc. I was very open to do whatever as long as I captured the moment.
fast forward 10 years later I have my own website, and my own brand. I have customers who are always seeking me for special occasions, I have been booked all over north Carolina and other states as well. my goal was to travel, meet new places, make connections and get to know new people through doing what I’m passionate about. I have really put a lot of effort and dedication to get to where I’m at today and I hope I just keep growing as time goes,
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
a struggle for me would be juggling my day job, and photography business. its hard to be persistent at both and be good at both, bit it think I managed to do it well enough that it has thought me how to be more patient with things.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My take on photography is more of a candid look. I like to capture movement, documentary style with an artistic twist.
I’m most proud of the diverse clientele and all the support I receive from everyone.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think in photography you risk as much as you want, I think its all up to the individual and how far you’re willing to go with photography. there’s going to be risk everywhere you go in photography because you’re never in the same environment twice so you have to be open to new things and ready to step out you’re comfort zone.
no risk no reward.
