Daily Inspiration: Meet Alyssa Erb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Erb.

Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset and love to turn passions into incomes if possible. Hence, how Erban Media was thought of and created. Arts, crafts, and pretty much anything creative have always been passions and hobbies of mine. I loved taking photos with my phone and editing them in Lightroom. I also love drawing on my iPad and making/decorating my planners/bullet journals. So, I bought a camera and started offering photoshoots as well as personalized bullet journals. I have also recently started making digital planners that I hope to have on Etsy soon. I love being able to be creative but also make an income from my hobbies at the same time. Now I offer several products that I have background in including but not limited to photoshoots, digital portraits, digital downloads/printables, customized bullet journals, and social media marketing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely would not classify it as a smooth road. My husband is in the Air Force and has left several times over the last four years. Pair that with being a mom, a college student, and a full-time worker, I don’t always have the time I want to dedicate to my passions or starting my own business. I have very little support here since my family is over twelve hours away and military friends are constantly moving and changing. But I still love to do it and try to find a way to make it work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For the last few years, I have been filling roles in sales’ jobs. I started out in car sales and fell in love with the sale’s world. I had no idea that I would love it so much until I tried it. I think it’s because a sale’s job requires having an entrepreneurial mindset and you are basically running your own business. I loved car sales and being around the vehicles because I got to drive whatever I wanted there but the long hours were very difficult for me to keep up with when my husband was deployed and I was handling everything at home while being in school and working. So, I decided to make a switch and moved to a different sale’s job with more reasonable hours in the Cellular Sales company as a Verizon authorized retailer.

I am most proud of my growth from a baby salesperson to one who is now confident in her skills and experience.

I would say that the thing that sets me apart is my transparency throughout the sale’s process. I do not like to be misleading like salespeople often get the bad rep for and all of my customers have voiced their appreciation for that honesty.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I have learned just how important it is to look on the bright side of things and find something to smile about. Count your blessings and be grateful for them because tomorrow is never guaranteed. While COVID-19 has been terrible, it also opened up doors and experiences I never would have dreamed of. Because church services were being broadcasted, I was able to watch my uncle preach his sermons from over twelve hours away when it had been over ten years since I had last been able to attend one of his services. I was able to spend more time with my husband and daughter and truly cherish that time now looking back.

I suffer from anxiety and depression and while I am on medication, being secluded away from others really hurt me mentally and emotionally. I didn’t do well feeling so alone and secluded. Because of this, I had to find new ways to entertain myself and “see” others. Let’s just say, I am super thankful for video-chatting technology and working in a field that was considered essential.
