Life & Work with Jason Prince

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Prince.

Jason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Photography has been a part of my life since high school, where I was on the yearbook staff. I put the camera down for many years after that. I didn’t pick it back up until I had graduated college and a co-worker needed someone to photograph her wedding, but she couldn’t afford a photographer. I told her, if you can get me a camera, I will shoot your wedding.

Well, she found the camera, and she got me as an amateur wedding photographer. I was on YouTube learning the camera up until the ceremony started, and the rest is history. I have been using my passion for people to blend into their special moments, capturing moments, smiles, and emotions ever since. I absolutely count it a joy to be a part of people’s special moments.

My passion is event photography, and that has grown into portraits, landscapes, and more. With the onset of COVID, I have expanded and established a newfound love for video. I am a storyteller, giving voice to the humanity that is all around me, at whatever time I am called.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I really have no complaints. Photography can be really expensive, and I was able to build any equipment costs into my projects. If I needed it, I invoiced for it, and if it couldn’t be covered by the project, I didn’t buy it.

My biggest challenges have been related to shooting in different situations. I took a lot of bad photos, and a lot of really bad videos, because there were times where I was not equipped for the lighting, or didn’t have the right lens, or struggled to get the right angles. The secret to my success over that was remaining passionate, fearless, and persistent.

Did a lot of research, and trials on my own time? Recreated my failures so that I could better understand them and problem-solve them. One thing that also really helped me was to stop comparing myself to others, and really just focused on setting my own standards and passing them. In this age of digital media, we take in so much, it’s easy to not see our own value.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love people and creativity. I am a storyteller and I enjoy helping others, share and tell their stories. I specialize in video storytelling with both images, and video. I am proud of the fact that I get to work with a wide variety of clients, from individuals to corporations.

We all have a story to tell and take that charge seriously. I am able to do this in a unique way.

How do you define success?
Success is being in charge of your life, being able to do what you love and provide whatever comforts you desire for yourself. Success is the point when there is fulfillment in the areas of life that others would call work.

Success is the freedom to be what you are called to be and having the means to sustain it.
