Meet Shynasti Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shynasti Parker.

Hi Shynasti, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I was always around the beauty industry from my mom doing nails in a hair salon at a young age to many of my family members being hairstylist, down to my mom teaching me how to do my own hair, I became fascinated with beauty and idea of making other women look and feel beautiful. In high school, I would tried different looks on my hair and also did some of my friends’ hair just to experiment. I attended Paul Micthell’s School of Raleigh in 2013 and I briefly lost interest in hair after being discourage and not having tunnel vision to see the light at the end and understanding the process. I then decided to try another career path in the medical field and became a medical assistant. Even though I loved working to help people and the job was easy for me it wasn’t my passion, it didn’t fulfill me, and I knew I had a bigger purpose. After working in the hospital for 2 years I realized hair was what fueled the fire in me and I needed to have faith in my talent, believe in myself, and take a leap on faith. Now I am a full-time hairstylist who specializes in custom-made machine units and wig installs. I love everything about what I do. Providing women with a service that can make them feel good, bring out their alter ego, and also give them a relaxing environment to enjoy time for themselves. During my hair journey, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many amazing powerful women who not only inspired me but also let me know how much I inspired them which means the world to me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an entrepreneur has definitely had its ups and downs. Some days are amazing and some days are not as great as others. You go from working a traditional 9-5 with a guaranteed income every two weeks to working 24/7 betting on yourself and having to manage clients to make sure you make your weekly/monthly goals. From the outside, it looks easy but when you’re a hairstylist you are the stylist, the therapist, the assistant. the social media manager, the creative director. the accountant, the customer rep, on top of living your regular life. My biggest struggle was not thinking I was good enough and comparing myself to others. I had to realized I am my own competition and what is for me will not pass me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do? |
I’m hairstylist who specializes in custom machine-made units at Shy’s Platinum Bar. My units are great for protective styles, women who suffer with hair loss like alopecia, and for everyday wear. My units are crowns for woman to switch out their looks whenever they want to. I make them in different sizes, lengths, and colors. I create custom unit to specifically fit clients’ needs and offer services to show them how apply their unit. What sets me apart is my passion for creating looks to make woman bring out their alter ego. Every wig I do I make with love and act as if it was my own.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Most important lesson I’ve learned is patients. Remembering that everything takes time and when God says it’s your time to it’s yours.
