Daily Inspiration: Meet Josh Gupton and Trevor Everette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Gupton and Trevor Everette.

Hi Josh and Trevor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We started out as high school friends who grew up here in what die-hard basketball fans would call “Tobacco Road.” In high school, we spent our free time arguing over the superiority of UNC and NC State basketball.

When we decided to start the podcast, we lived in two different cities at the time and since we connected growing up over basketball, we decided to reconnect by starting a podcast where we could talk about hoops. Once the first episode went live, we realized how much we enjoy sharing our thoughts, how much we liked talking basketball weekly, and how much potential the idea had.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Relatively so, sure. When you begin a new idea or project that you seemingly know nothing about, you of course are going to struggle. We had no idea how to record, edit, publish, market, heck even how to “do a podcast.” There were a lot of moments where we taught ourselves, trial and error, and plenty of frustration.

We never even uploaded the first actual recording we did because we had no sense of how to talk into a microphone for what ended up being almost 3 hours (our typical episodes today run about an hour).

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Branch Banker at PNC where I specialize in Personal Banking. My co-host, Josh is a graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill. I am most proud of the achievements and goals I have been able to obtain in the last year despite being new to my career field. Josh is most proud of the fact he was able to get into and attend UNC-Chapel Hill, a school he was a fan of all of his life up until that point.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Perseverance.

Nothing comes easy especially in the world of creating content. You can go from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows and those moments can be only hours or days apart.
