Rising Stars: Meet DY Nasty

Today we’d like to introduce you to DY Nasty.

Hello DY Nasty, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out as a local producer & nightclub DJ, putting out mixtapes and albums throughout NC. Then in the year 2000, I create my independent label called “Hazardous Records LLC”, which help create more opportunities for myself. I landed major producer placement on a lot of major albums like Dj Khaled, Dip Set, 2Chains, etc.

Once the year 2002 came along, I then landed a radio slot on the former station I usta work for K975. I was there for almost 10 years, but I used that platform to build up my label and my name to a level that would certify me in the radio and music industry. In the year 2011, I was fired from K975, and I had to regroup and rebuild for over 9 years. During those years of me throwing successful weekly parties and concerts, I save almost half a million dollars. I got in contact with my aunt Delores from Cali, we had a great family business meeting.

She liquidated some of her assets and she brought a little over $250K to the table. We partnered up and formed PMC Broadcasting, Purchased 97.9 FM from a Doctor out of Tarboro, NC. It took us an additional 2 years to move the frequency into the Raleigh, NC market, On Oct 2018 at 9 pm, that night Hot 97.9 FM was born. It’s been up ever since then with a constant hustle and grind.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A lot of hard challenges were when we didn’t have enough money to purchase the frequency from the Doctor. We sought family members to invest or help, but we were also told no or maybe, which ended being a no anyway.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
