Hidden Gems: Meet Sable Loper and Giana Johnson of Mixxy Mixers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sable Loper and Giana Johnson.

Hi Sable and Giana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My business partner and I (Sable) started a Bartending Service in Durham, North Carolina in 2021. We wanted to start this company because we noticed people in the food industry like ourselves were struggling to make ends meet or could even afford to pay health insurance with a zero paycheck only to depend on customers’ tips for a living.

We both wanted to make a change so we came up with the idea of starting a bartending school. We knew if we taught people like ourselves a new skill in the food industry we could make a change in someone’s life and our community. We decided to help our community by giving free bartending classes monthly to our local food industry people who are interested in becoming bartenders.

We also employ students to the company so they earn over min wage plus tips. We want our community to know we are here to help them succeed in a new career with us. In just a few months we have taught 50 students, 22 employees, and employed over 30 students.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggle along the way was getting people to trust us with our vision to change the food and bartending industry.
