Daily Inspiration: Meet Cecilia Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Turner.

Hi Cecilia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Cecilia Turner, owner and jewlery designer behind Clay by Cee. I want to first thank you all for asking us to be a part of this publishing. We are so honored. So I started working with polymer clay when we first went home for the pandemic in early 2020. I found myself spending a lot of time on social media so I wanted to find a more creative outlet. I started watching clay-related Youtube videos and at the time, there wasn’t a ton on the actual polymer clay earring making process.

I remember finding random items around my house, like a jar lip or small measuring cups, to use as a clay cutter tool. My first earrings were so botched but I still keep them as a memory of where I started. After months of trial and error, I made earrings I was willing to sell to others. With the support of my husband, I took the leap and launched Clay By Cee as a business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Clay By Cee is a side business in addition to my full-time job so time management is very important and something I’m still learning/practicing. While I LOVE when things work out and run smoothly, that’s not always the case.

There are always bumps in the road when running a business whether it be late shipments of business inventory or forgetting to order something before you run out of it (I just did this last week). I’ve learned to keep a back-stock of crucial items needed to keep the business running and creativity flowing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Preparing for delays/cancellations is one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through the pandemic — things we cannot control.
