Hi Micah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am Micah Barbee, a native of Durham, NC, owner of Drip MB Hydration and Wellness.
This IV Hydration Concierge Service opened in August 2021. I have been a registered nurse for 6 years working with babies from the NICU to the Geriatric population on medical-surgical units. I love the diversity we have in the field of nursing.
In 2020, I think we all can agree it was a rough year for a lot of us, the pandemic took a toll on my personal life and professional life as a bedside nurse. I wanted to pour my love and passion for helping others into my own project. So, I thought to give nurse entrepreneurship a try, and I love it here!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
From transitioning to being a bedside nurse to a nurse entrepreneur was not a smooth road at all. I could be a nurse all day and every day, but being a businesswoman does not happen overnight. There’s a lot of trial and error when it comes to learning about a business without going to business school. I’ve learned so much from my mistakes that I could practically write an ebook on what NOT to do lol.
I came into a new city with few connections, trying to first educate consumers on what is that I am doing on top of making sure they understand IV Hydration is a key component to help improve their health and wellness goals. Once I announced my brand, I was worried if people would support me and my business. Boy was I in shock! I received so much support even from those who weren’t familiar with IV Hydration. This drove me to give my business my all.
With that being said I also had to learn how to step back and implement a little self-care into my daily routine in order to prevent burnout as an entrepreneur. If my journey was smooth, my business would not be as successful as it is today. One African proverb that sticks with me in challenging times is, “Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors”.
I truly embrace every bump in the road.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the youthfulness of this city and the room for growth. There are so many unique small businesses that have originated in this city. My least favorite thing is the traffic! But that’s expected in an innovated metropolitan area.
