Rising Stars: Meet Reginald Winston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Winston.

Hi Reginald, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m just a small-town kid from a large family, with a big dream.

My dream was to be the world’s greatest husband and father! In order to do that, I knew I had to provide stability, security, and flexibility. Entrepreneurship was the one way I knew for sure I could achieve that. I faithfully worked a 3rd shift warehouse job to pay for school and I became a barber in 2011. I didn’t want to just become a barber, I had the desire of creating an urban barbershop franchise that will positively impact the industry and the community. This vision has gained me numerous awards including:

Best barbershop in NC in 2016 – 2x Andis Barber Battle winner 3x – Major League Barber Battle winner – BBUA Beauty & Barber Awards Best in Barber Shop 2016 – 2017 Citizen of the Year – Beyond The Stars Industry Leader 2018 – Making A Difference Award 2021 Edgecombe Community College Barber Barber College –

With the commitment of the client and corporate partnerships, I’ve been able to lead a charge to improve communities surrounding Wake County. Our partnerships include every client that patronizes The Bar-Ber Shop, American Heart Association, Boys Club, NC Food Bank, Raleigh Police Department, Books with Barbers, Books & Barbershops, YM4C, Tru Access, Xotics Products, Luster S-Curl Products, Andis Clipper Company, Wahl Zaxby’s, Toshiba Business Solutions, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.

And that is just to name a few. I have had the honor of honing and hosting some of Raleigh’s best talent inside The Bar Ber Shop, and for that I’m grateful! Currently, we have (1) location in Raleigh and another location in Wake Forest with Sherod Holloway.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Man, it has not been an easy road but the journey has been well worth it.

We premiered on the scene in 2014 as the best shop with the best talent in Raleigh, NC. Then around 2019 as the barbers branched out we had to completely rebuild. Up next, we were hit with the pandemic and were forced to shut down for months. It was all tough, and still as we continue to rebuild.

I have personally taken a lot of hits being in entrepreneurship, however, it is the nature of the beast. We charge it to the game of entrepreneurship and we move forward. Always stronger.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud to be a visionary. I am a barber at The Bar Ber Shop Raleigh which I own and part-owner of The Bar Ber Shop Wake Forest. I am most proud of the way we serve each client and each community organization. We serve as if God is watching and that is what I am most proud of.

A lot of people do great business and that’s really good but we do great service. And that is where the difference is made. Everyone who walks through the doors of the shop is family, even if it is just for a 30 min haircut!

What were you like growing up?
I was always up to something as a kid, I was funny and at times could be reserved and quiet. I was a hard worker and had the desire to please others even as a kid. I played my strengths well.
