Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianne Bradshaw.
Hi Adrianne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’m a North Carolina native with a passion for journalism, people, sports (ESPECIALLY North Carolina sports!), an authentic and meaningful relationships. Born and raised in Greensboro, N.C. I was very blessed to be surrounded by family that supported my dreams and passions, I’ve always enjoyed being in the center of the action and enjoyed team activities and staying physically active.
One of my earliest loves was the game of basketball, I began playing for the local YMCA at the age of twelve, I wasn’t the best at that time but I possessed the three tools needed to be great at my sport: Dedication, a relentless pursuit to be the best and BEAT the best and tunnel vision.
Through my dedication and years of practice, I earned the opportunity to receive scholarship offers from several Division 1 major basketball programs. I made the choice to attend Clemson University on a full athletic scholarship based on my love for ACC basketball, the wonderful academic reputation, and the feeling of home that I felt during my visits to the University, I excelled as a student and an athlete at Clemson. I was team captain of my team and an honor roll student.
After four wonderful years at Clemson, I went on to work for an athletic conference as a communications director, I then moved to one of my favorite cities in the Country, Chicago, to work as a speaker and coordinator for an athletic company. Working in communications and as a public speaker led to my decision to attend graduate school at the University of South Florida.
There, I blossomed as a young adult and as a burgeoning journalist. While enrolled in the Journalism and Media Studies graduate program, I interned at news stations in Tampa and St. Petersburg Florida and I worked as a graduate assistant for the University. During postgraduate school, I accepted a position at a local station in Charleston S.C. as an Anchor/Reporter and traffic anchor.
It was there that I sharpened my skills as an anchor, after two years in Charleston I immersed myself in my first love, sports broadcasting, I worked as the color analyst/play-by-play for Wake Forest University women’s basketball and ESPN/WATCHESPN. My current stop in what will be my life-long career as a journalist/broadcast journalist is at Spectrum News 1 as an Anchor/Reporter/Traffic Anchor, where I’ve worked for over two years.
I’ve also worked as a host of a lifestyle show in Charleston S.C. where I had the opportunity to interview celebrities, sports stars, and community leaders. Working as a journalist, sports anchor/reporter and host is only a small facet of my journey in this wonderful profession!
I’m always looking forward to fresh opportunities to inspire others to GO FOR THEIR DREAMS! I believe that shining the bright light that God has placed inside of us is a part of our purpose on this earth, and I strive to do that every day!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been fortunate to have numerous opportunities to pursue my goals and dreams, however, challenges arise in everyday life. To combat those challenges and potential roadblocks I believe in prayer, following my instincts, and remaining positive in the face of adversity.
I’ve been in leadership roles my entire life and I feel my leadership ability has allowed me to take on challenges and conquer them. When all else fails I’m reminded that I was born and placed on this Earth to be a force of positive change and an example to those coming up behind me.
Once you tap into your purpose and continue to do what’s right, life becomes easier and more fulfilling. I’m always working to be better, treat people better, and make the space that I occupy better.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m currently a News Anchor/Reporter/Traffic Anchor for a local television station in Raleigh N.C. I’m also a sports broadcaster and host with over 7 years of experience.
I specialize in delivering timely and factual news to people. I’m most proud of who am as a person, I’m a work in progress and I’m so excited for what God has in store for me! I think what sets me apart is my confidence and versatility.
I work in an industry where representation is EXTREMELY important and I’m very proud to work as a broadcast journalist as a minority, as a black woman, in an industry where more representation is needed. I’m Blessed and my goal is to be a blessing to others.
