Hidden Gems: Meet George Suggs of FVN Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Suggs.

Hi George, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Geo Suggs. I currently own a company called FVN Clothing LLC. My brand has grown to have two departments: Print on Demand and Graphic Design. I started out customizing clothing for myself and others.

Quickly, I started producing one of one garment and manufacturing for small businesses. During the time of learning new materials and technology for printing clothing, I started to learn Adobe Illustrator.

By picking up skills in Adobe Illustrator, I was able to provide flyers, logos, and other forms of illustrations. Today, the company manufactures clothing and provides original illustrations for our clients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel all brands face their hick-ups, especially for someone who did not study fashion design in college. Most of my “struggles” were getting the fastest learning curve and finance. Although I had little to no experience in making custom clothing other than my jean jacket, I was willing to learn.

I started googling materials companies such as Nike used, and the best way to get those supplies. And this is where I ran into the second obstacle, funding and finances to purchase these supplies. Luckily during college, I had a part-time which helped pay for the supplies and machines.

Once I had a certain amount of supplies and equipment, I had to showcase what I was able to offer. During that window of marketing, I had to understand, that I could not market to everyone.

We’ve been impressed with FVN Clothing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is currently based in Brooklyn, NY. I provide custom clothing and manufacturing in bulk for small businesses and organizations. I specialize in heat transfer vinyl prints.

The brand has expanded its product line, now offering embroidery services. The company does have a Graphic and Design Department called LOGOS. Through LOGOS, clients can are able to bring their dreams to reality. I believe, what sets us apart is our time and patience with our clients.

We truly work hard to bring their vision to life, through both clothing and illustrations. Because our focus is on businesses and organizations, we tend to offer discounts on bulk orders and requests.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
For me and the company to be successful, consistency and innovation. Even though a pandemic, with the help of family, I was able to maintain my business and focus more on it.

The business did get slow, but I was still consistent and available for people and clients to print and other jobs related.

During the 2-3 year time frame of the pandemic, when things got slow on the clothing side of the brand, the graphics and design were able to bring in revenue and retain most of the profits because it’s digital, unlike print on demand.
