Life & Work with Elijah Rosario

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Rosario.

Hi Elijah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My musical journey began back in high school. That’s when I recorded my first song with a really good friend of mine. It was called, “Even Though”. That moment of hearing what I sounded like and that’s when I knew I had the potential to make good music, but I wasn’t as passionate about it at all.

Playing sports and wanting to play basketball professionally was the only thing on my mind at the time. However, that didn’t stop me from learning how to write my own songs and experiment with different genres and sounds and I did that over a course of 10 years. After the passing of my mother on Christmas day 2019, music became the only route I had to thoroughly express my feelings and emotions, it was also my break from reality.

Late 2020, that’s when I made the decision to take music seriously and go full force and that’s what lead me to work with one of my best friends Xotic who is an engineer and producer here in Raleigh and he helped create my sound and once we got my sound together that’s when we made my album, “Genuine Truths” and since the release of the album, I’ve been working non-stop.

Performing in shows, getting bookings, feature inquiries, and really seeing growth within the last 10 months, because I’ve not only made music my passion, but I’ve accepted that it’s one of my callings and the way everything has been unfolding for me validates that feeling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Mostly, because I was in my own way. I knew I had the raw talent, but I didn’t invest in my craft in the beginning. I wasn’t putting in my “10,000 hours”, due to my lack of consistency, so every time I’d come back to making music it was like hitting the reset button on a gaming console.

Now that I’m putting in the time to perfect my craft in the studio, investing both my time and money and being intentional about those investments has afforded me some great opportunities within my career. Even though a lot of progress has been made, there are still a lot of hurdles to jump through, and anytime I began to feel discouraged because my songs aren’t getting a ton of attention, bookings may be slow or the music might not be for me.

I remind myself of how far I’ve come and that I still have a lot of work to do and that to me is okay, just as long as I continue to remain intentional and stay true to my why then I know the success will continue to come.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an R&B Pop artist & songwriter. I don’t consider myself a vocalist, my music and sound are a combination of pop sensibilities with mainstream R&B with a splash of melodic hip-hop flows. For first-time listeners, you might get a sense of popular artists such as Roy Woods, Don Toliver & The Weeknd.

What I’m most proud of is that within the past 2 years of being consistent with music, My sound has grown, and my fan base is increasing locally, regionally, and in other parts of the world. I’ve been able to headline shows and put my own concerts together and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be booked for shows in Virginia, New Mexico, Michigan and potentially going on tour this year. I’m seeing growth in every part of my artistry both creatively and on the business side.

I’ve been able to achieve what I’ve achieved mainly because of God, also being genuine and loving what I do. When God grants you his favor, you’re already set apart.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Well to my understanding, I was very curious, and observant and would say any silly thought that came to my mind. I’m still like this today haha. When I was younger, I wanted to hang out with the older people and go do what they did, I knew how to hold conversations and could talk to anyone.

I learned a lot of things at an early age, that matured me much quicker. I loved playing sports. Basketball was my whole world growing up, I’d watch all of Michael Jordan’s tapes and my dad would buy me all of the ESPN specials DVDs and I would just watch those things daily trying to learn from all of the greats.

That’s one trait I’ve never grown out of, when I’m really passionate about something I am constantly studying it, in search of takeaways or new findings that I may have missed from the previous times. I don’t think I’ll ever lose that side of me nor will I ever lose my inner child.

I’m such a kid at heart and I love silly things or anything I can just have a laugh about.
