Exploring Life & Business with Dedrick Moone of The Rules of a Big Boss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dedrick Moone.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My daughter, Haelee was the central motivating factor in publishing my first book and establishing our company, The Rules of a Big Boss LLC, where she’s the CEO. That book is entitled The Unexpected Journey: Fire and Gold. The story recounts traumatic experiences that she and I lived through while sharing how we became one another’s heroes in the process.

But before I get to that Haelee went first in publishing her self-help book entitled, The Rules of a Big Boss: A book of self-love on June 25, 2020. She shared how she overcame depression, anxieties, and betrayal to help not only herself heal but others as well. I met two fellow authors and podcasters by way of Haelee (Shanique MJ Davis and Genesis Amaris Kemp).

To be specific they interviewed her on their platforms. In doing so, they said something to the effect that she was so very wise for her age and that they were floored by her resilience and testimony. Having said that, they told her that they’d like to talk to me to gain additional perspective.

After hearing my side of things, they told me that I needed to write my own book and that they would assist me in doing so if I was willing. I started writing The Unexpected Journey in concert with Haelee in November of 2020 and published it on March 5, 2021. Shanique held true to her word in helping me publish it by serving as my editor.

Genesis helped me push past my pains and traumas of reliving the events that transpired in the book by keeping me encouraged throughout the writing process and each day thereafter.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that it’s somewhere in the middle. Some of the largest challenges have been establishing legitimacy, differences of opinion, and time management. I would like to specifically highlight the point towards legitimacy because I made a point to not only trademark our business but also copyright our intellectual property early on in establishing The Rules of a Big Boss.

In spite of that, some organizations questioned our legitimacy when we initially reached out to them to market our services and capabilities. This was particularly disheartening because one of those organizations was my daughters former elementary school. That aside, we’ve sense established a relationship with that school and others wherein we’ve successfully delivered content. We achieved this through persistence and continuously working on our craft, ourselves, and our capabilities.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Rules of a Big Boss LLC?
Our mission is that we will elevate and empower children, teens, adults, and families across the world. And our resulting vision is that we will bolster self-love and self-esteem through our books, clothing, accessories, programs, services, and partnerships.

With respect to all of the above, we’re most proud of being best-selling and award-winning authors in our own right. With respect to that public libraries and schools throughout North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota carry our books. But not only that, several of them have partnered with us to deliver content and programming to their constituents and patrons.

And just recently, Haelee and I signed a mother and daughter team to a book publishing deal.

What matters most to you?
I would like to leave the world in a better place than I entered it. The reason being is that Haelee, my future grandchildren, my Godchildren, and other future generations have to live in it. I don’t want them to have to endure the same struggles that I or anyone has had before them. In other words, I want to lay a runway for them to have as smooth a landing as possible.
