Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Pulley.
Hi Kelly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I live in Clayton and I’m married with two sons. I started out working at a bank in the financial industry for over fourteen years. I always loved the beauty industry and would play with hair and makeup on the side.
After many years of changing positions to hopefully be fulfilled, I finally decided to follow my heart and step out and go back to school to pursue cosmetology. Looking back I see the path so clear as to how I was led to leave the financial industry and follow my heart. I think that gave me the push to do what I needed and wanted to do instead of what I was expected to do.
I have worked in the Clayton/Riverwood community for over fifteen years now. I started out working at another salon within the area. My dream was to open my own salon and provide a great workplace for other stylists.
In 2015 my husband and I opened the doors to Twisted River Hair Studio! I’m close to home, connected to the community in which I live, and feel like I have extended family all around me.
I love being involved in the community with cosmetology services, to community fundraisers. It is so fulfilling to help clients feel great about their selves and enhance their inner beauty. I am fulfilling my dream!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We started out with a great time team of the three of us. I worked a lot of extra late hours to accommodate our new clients and to help get our name out to the community. We have now grown to seven stylists.
One of the biggest challenges has been to overcome the Covid shutdown and the impact of the pandemic on our industry. We had to work at 50% capacity with strict guidelines for some time. We pulled together creative schedules and accommodations for our clients to keep them safe and comfortable.
We are thankful to be back to normal guidelines! I am very grateful for our clients and the continuing support they have shown us!

I have a specialty and passion for color services. I love to transform a client and to see how confident that can help them feel. I love the attention to detail and providing exceptional customer service.
What’s next?
We look forward to continuing to serve our clients in the Clayton community. We are planning to add another team member/stylist to accommodate our client’s needs.
