Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalissa Grier.
Hi Jalissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Durham, NC but raised in Winston-Salem so I call this place home. My mom was a nurse, her mom as well – so it was inevitable that I graduated from Winston-Salem State University’s nursing program in 2015 to keep this legacy going.
The majority of my nursing career is comprised of emergency room nursing which allowed me to see both the good and bad within our healthcare system. These experiences prompted me to further my education in Family Medicine as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse to hopefully stand in the gap for those who do not have access to care and would utilize the emergency department for minor health issues.
Fast forward to 2018, I became a Family Nurse Practitioner and served in the ambulatory care setting caring for patients across the lifespan. Throughout this whole experience, I didn’t realize that there was a way to utilize my license in spaces outside of acute and ambulatory care settings.
It wasn’t until I was on maternity leave during the height of the pandemic that I desired more from my career and was introduced to aesthetics. I absolutely LOVE all things skin and beauty – once I found a way to pair it with my science background things took off from there!
Bella Sol Medical Spa is named after my two daughters Bellamy and Soleil who I absolutely adore and want to give the world to.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road, but it also hasn’t been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’m the type of person that seeks out information especially if I am determined to make things happen. I was able to take courses and invest in things that would allow this journey to start on a solid foundation.
That also came with long nights, working longer hours to pay out of pocket for expenses, and sacrificing time with family and friends – but it’s starting to pay off. The biggest thing in my way most times was me. Imposter syndrome, comparing my journey to someone’s picture-perfect social media, and at times negative self-talk.
Now that, I am able to identify those things, I feel unstoppable! I am really only getting started and looking forward to proving to myself that I am capable of the big plans God already has for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bella Sol Medical Spa, PLLC?
Bella Sol Medical Spa, PLLC is a health and wellness space that caters to those looking to both feel and look their best. Our slogan, “Self-care at the cellular level” encompasses all of our services but what we are known for is IV Hydration and Vitamin Therapy.
Delivering hydration and nutrients at the cellular level allows us to age well, perform well, and stay well. We have recently expanded into advanced aesthetic services such as medical-grade facials, neurotoxins, and dermal fillers. We carry science-backed skincare products and offer education to clients via consultations, our social media outlets, and at community pop-up events.
What sets us apart from other medical spas in our area is that we are black-owned. This was an interesting fact for me – but there is not another black-owned medical spa in Winston-Salem, NC. I love that my brand is cohesive. The colors and logo were developed with the community in mind. Let’s break down my logomark:
1. The hand represents the customer as well as the community. It takes up a large percentage of the space inside the main shape as these are the most important elements in making sure Bella Sol thrives. The hand is reaching for the drop.
2. The drop represents services the spa provides – more explicitly the IV Hydration which is its main focus. The water (spa) is nourishing the hand which represents the community. A symbiotic relationship between these two elements is the foundation for a lifelong partnership.
3. Besides adding aesthetic value and tying the shapes together under one artistic style, the rings are symbolic and represent the bond between Jalissa and her children – the main reason this business exists.
Additional services we offer: Medically Managed Weight Loss, Rapid COVID Testing, Early Gender Reveal Testing, Full-Body Waxing, Lash Extensions, B12 + Lipo Shots.
What’s next?
I have so many plans but I’m really just staying the course and taking things as they come.
I would love to expand into a bigger space whether that be purchasing a building or leasing a storefront. I look forward to being able to build a team that believes in my brand just as much as I do.
