Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Epps.
Hi Lindsey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our mission is to empower, engage, and educate women+ in tech. We have a unique opportunity to unite and support each other. We encourage any woman+ that celebrates technology to join our effort. Our goal as a nonprofit is to fundraise to provide opportunities for education.
Continuing education, boot camps, scholarships, and grants. The ultimate goal of this group is to empower each and every woman+ that values the role that technology plays in her life. We will be offering many opportunities to network with other women+ in tech.
We encourage one on one connecting as well as at our meetup events. We are better together. We need each other. Bottomline – statistics show that we need more women+ in tech. The roles are lopsided, and our goal is to help provide a more even environment.
We know that women+ led businesses perform better. We also know that we need more women+ in tech. Join us because we are better together.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We originally started as a meetup.com group and have reformed and re-normed as a membership-driven 501(3)c. Getting established as a non-profit was a wonderful accomplishment that we are really proud of. Growing our membership to support the non-profit has proved to be challenging.
We were on a great momentum and then the pandemic started and all of our carefully laid out plans for the year had to change. We pivoted the best we could but we are still feeling the effects of the changes that happened since 2020. We are renewed in our focus to offer quality, but limited, in-person events to grow our community.
We have a renewed focus on mentorship and hope that this part of our group grows. While it has not been easy the last couple of years our foundation was strong and we are excited about the future.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Carolina Women+ in Tech is a 501(3)c non-profit that offers membership to women+ in tech. We focus on our mentorship program, in-person, and virtual events/workshops, and partnerships with tech organizations such as Dottie Rose Foundation to serve our local youth community.
We specialize in inspiring & upskilling women+ and girls pursuing technology as a passion/career while providing people and resources to advance our members in the field. We are most proud of the community we have built and the connections we make. We love seeing women+ supporting women+ and celebrating each other – not only in careers but also in their everyday lives.
We focus on women+ in North and South Carolina and we are the most broadly defined women’s group focused on technology. We are not only a group of developers or UX designers but we are all of those and then some!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Membership – Membership is the best way to support and join us. As a member, you will get to be part of our mission to engage, empower and educate women+ in tech.
Volunteer – Carolina Women+ in Tech relies on the generosity of our community members through their time and talents.
Community Partner/Sponsor – We would not be where we are without the generous support of our Sponsor partners. If your company is interested in supporting WIT we would love to talk to them about the ways their dollars help to grow this community.
