Life & Work with Jonny Kaine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Kaine.

Jonny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Jonathan Kainessie. I am from Charlotte, North Carolina. Born and raised on the west side of charlotte specifically. I am also a first generational child of two parents both being born in Sierra Leone West Africa.

My parents instilled a lot of their culture and beliefs into my and my brother Martin’s life growing up in an African household.

We were always exposed to our roots through food, fashion, music, and so many factors. While growing up on the west side of Charlotte, we were also exposed to many different environments and situations early to the point where we were presented with the option of different lanes and paths for our lives at an early age. Having the background and raising from my parents, I chose the right paths to get me to where I am today.

These impacts and the beliefs that I was raised with and developed becoming an adult have 100% impacted and built the foundation for what Jonny Kaine Fitted N” Apparel is all about. I started the brand in June of 2021 with a goal to showcase and bring recognition to authenticity and creativity and all levels and acts of life.

Between social media and cell phones, people now aren’t able to truly get to know each one another and are able to put up facades and images of something that they want to portray instead of their true and authentic selves.

My goal is to bring light to those who still believe in being true to themselves and staying authentic within by all means and not letting what’s going on around them deteriorate them from reaching their end goals in life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe that nothing good in life comes with an easy road. In my journey to where I am today, I can attest and say that it was not always easy. I personally had to overcome a lot of personal things in my life as well as relationships that impacted my direction.

Determining the right people to continue to the group along with me through my journey was a big task but was well needed for me to protect my spiritual balance and not be bothered by everything that goes on around me and the world.

Doing this was a task tho because I had to discontinue ties and relationships with certain individuals because I then began to see people for who they are and didn’t see how our relationship could better both sides of the spectrum.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional, International, traveling, and tour DJ. I have been deejaying since I was 14 and I am now currently 21 and have had the opportunity to DJ just about every event and occasion you can think of.

Being African, I am able to DJ so many different crowds and demographics as well as pay homage to my true hip hop and R&B roots stemming from Charlotte.

This impacts my fashion and my brand in so many aspects. I believe that music and fashion go hand and hand and I’m well-rounded in both!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
1. Being authentic.
2. Staying true to self and beliefs.
3. Being thankful and grateful for all experiences through life. Both good and bad.
4. Aligning myself with the right people and situations based on energy, intuition, and experiences.
5. Acknowledging those that I love and what they’ve done for me to get me to where I am today.
