Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashaad King.
Hi Rashaad, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started singing in my paw’s choir at the age of three. My love for music has always been there! My early childhood in music consisted of choir and band once I got to middle school.
In high school, I changed over to chorus, which introduced me to stage performance. I was a part of homecoming shows and musicals while simultaneously playing sports. In college, I played football for three years, towards the end of my third year playing I recorded my first song.
Anyone who knew me before would say that football was my life. Once I began writing and recording my own music football faded, and I had a new passion. That was around the year 2016.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a smooth road at all! One thing I noticed early on was that a lot of the people I expected to support just simply didn’t! Which was a big blow to my heart/ego and is one of the first hurdles artists must get over EXPECTATION! I expected music to come easily because of my background and because of my talent.
Another hurdle was SCAM ARTISTS! I’ve been scammed a few times; many people seek to take advantage of hungry artists and I was a victim of that. Losing money and trust caused me to become guarded in the years to come. Losing friends and family who didn’t believe in what I was doing is also another hurdle, one that I actually experienced recently.
At the beginning of my career, I was making music that was only getting me booked for Christian youth camps, around 2019, I decided to change my music to my favorite genre to listen to R&B. Making music that I actually wanted to hear has helped me on stage, and just my confidence in general.
Some people from my past don’t agree with my music choice or visuals which took some getting used to!
My biggest hurdle at the moment is also my biggest blessing! I am a father of two baby girls Maiya (2) and Kalan (1), and balancing my music life and home life has been a challenge, but one that I gladly accept and fight to perfect how I fill each role.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer that can also rap! I am also a dancer and an actor! Some of my biggest inspirations are artists like Michael Jackson and Usher. So I am known to incorporate dance (both freestyle and choreography) into my performances as well as videos.
I am very proud to have had my single “Westside Maserati” be a part of the soundtrack for the movie “Crossover” by Fulmore Films which will be on Tubi soon and features a star-studded cast including Notorious’ Jamal Woolard. If you watch my music videos you’ll notice storyline and acting play a big factor and that is another thing I’m extremely proud of.
Scripts/treatments are written by myself and my team helps me cast and fulfill these projects. Super thankful for guys like AJ Curington, John Loy, Eric Calhoun, Brimages, Tope Olaniyan, Max Rex, and many others who contribute to my team/projects!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m releasing a new single “Down For Me” on the 27th which will more than likely be out by the time this is printed, so if you could shout that out and include the link! I can email the link as soon as it drops!
