Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikia Williams Wilson.

Hi Nikia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi there! I am a branding photographer + attorney + cupcake connoisseur!

I’ve been a photographer at heart since I was a child. I was always the person at the family event, camera in hand, snapping away to my heart’s content. In high school, I loved my photography class but didn’t believe that I could make a living as a photographer.

I took a more traditional route and chose business school and later law school. It wasn’t until a few years later that it “clicked” (pun intended, LOL) and I realized how much photography is just a part of who I am, and my passion.

I began taking photography more seriously in 2009, and have been shooting ever since. I am also a licensed attorney (since 2013), and photography is my creative outlet. It took me a while to find my niche, but I adore branding photography. I really enjoy working with business owners and entrepreneurs to capture images for their businesses.

My goal is to ensure that my photography sessions are fun, carefree, and comfortable. I specialize in candid photos that capture the essence of each individual’s personality.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Photography hasn’t always been a smooth road. I have encountered challenges while learning techniques such as lighting and posing, in addition to the administrative tasks associated with running the business itself. There were many times when I wanted to quit.

It’s been difficult at times, but always rewarding. My clients keep me uplifted with their kind words. I love to see their excitement when they receive their final images.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nikia Williams Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Nikia Williams Photography is a young, modern photography company specializing in custom branding photography. The studio is located in Downtown Durham, NC but I also travel to capture my clients. I love working with business owners, bloggers, and creative minds to create images that capture the essence of their brands.

There are many photographers in the area. What sets Nikia Williams Photography apart is our personable and professional approach. Clients know that they can show up authentically, and expect great results. My clients usually end up becoming my friends!

My goal is always to ensure that our photography sessions are fun, carefree, and comfortable. I’m most proud of my ability to capture the personalities of my client through the lens.

What do you think about happiness?
The simple things in life make me most happy. Spending quality time with family and friends, sharing a laugh, or gathering together for a meal brings me so much joy. I’m also happy that I get to do what I love (photography) on a daily basis.
