Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Dalessandro.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I started my career as an auto technician at 18 years old. During my 20 year career, I’ve always repaired, customized, and drove classic cars. In 2017 I began running my shop part-time while maintaining a full-time technician job at a heavy-duty truck dealership in Raleigh. In December of 2021, I quit my day job, made Greasy Boy Kustoms my full-time job, and focused on growing my business.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I worked so many hours while the shop was part-time it took a great toll on my body and mind. I struggled juggling my day job, my shop, and my family; at the time, I was always in a band that performed gigs weekly—way too much on my plate.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in the 1970s and old ford trucks and cars. However, we are not limited to a brand as we work on all makes and models of classic cars and trucks. Our shop performs light motorcycle repairs and customization to motorcycles as well. I am most proud of one of my builds, my scratch-built 1931 ford roadster rat rod. It’s different, fun, rusty, and took me forever. What sets us apart is that we are a small shop and focus on our customer’s vision for their rides, from wild to mild.
What were you like growing up?
My dad is always building things from scratch, building remote control airplanes and RC cars to home repairs and DIY projects. He always involved us in all of those activities. I was always the kid taking everything apart and figuring out how it goes back together. I love all mechanical things. I love to watch them move.
