Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla Carroll.
Hi Mikayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, My name is Mikayla Carroll. I am from Fayetteville, North Carolina. I attended Fayetteville State University and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. Here is my story. I was a part of the MBX (Marching Bronco Express), where I played the Piccolo and the Flute. Was I the best? No, But I gave it my best. I am also a part of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority INC. Also, my Bestie Mykayla Williams graduated together. Growing up, I watched a lot of YouTube channels that focused on Curly Hair, Natural Hair Products, Vlogging, Beauty, and most importantly, Lifestyle, and I always stated that one day that would be me.
I would always say I’m going to start but get discouraged because I did not have the fancy equipment that all YouTubers have. All that discouragement stopped until I stumbled upon this YouTuber’s channel, and she stated, “You don’t have to have fancy equipment to start a YouTube channel. All you need is your phone, a ring light, good lighting, and a positive attuited”. So, I took heed to that and got the courage to start my YouTube channel on January 11th,2022. I finally got the courage to start, but I was still scared. I talked with my boyfriend at the time, telling him how I was scared and didn’t think a lot of people would support me. But he gave me the best advice ever. “You won’t know until you try.” So, that stuck with me for the longest time, and I finally got the courage on January 25th,2022, to upload my first YouTube video. Since then, my YouTube channel has blown up. I am now at 204 subscribers. It may seem like that is not a lot to you all, but to me, that is Major.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a YouTube channel, there will always be obstacles and Challenges along the way. Most importantly, you compete with many other YouTubers whose videos may look fancier than yours. Who has better equipment than you? Most importantly, who has been doing YouTube way longer than you have? To get monetized, you have to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. This one lady channel I looked at stated she was able to get that within one month. So, that’s what I thought would happen with my channel. That is not how things are going. We aren’t supposed to compare, but it’s hard not to.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
So currently right now I am working at the Early Childhood Learning Center. I am an Early Childhood Development Pr., a teacher Assistant. What sets me apart is that there is no other person to be but me. I am known for being very outspoken, love to laugh, and do not like bugs at all. My proudest accomplishment is when I finally decided to put myself first. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make. But, it had to be done.
