Life & Work with Rebecca Carter of Wilmington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Carter.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I love sharing my testimony! On May 15, 2021, my family and I had a graduation celebration for my oldest daughter, who graduated from UNCG. As part of her celebration, she requested a charcuterie board. I was unfamiliar with the culture of charcuterie, let alone how to pronounce “char-cute-rie.” But I researched and was excited to create my Baby Girl what she wanted. That evening while scrolling through my pictures, I posted a picture of the charcuterie board I created for her and others of her celebration. I received so many likes and comments and was thrilled. I remember posting the picture and posting it as a joke with laughing emojis “Hit me up to do your birthday parties, graduations, etc.”. That same evening I received two inquiries; The first was for a bridal party on a boat. The second one was a birthday party. When I received those inquiries, I declined and responded with, “I was just playing, I don’t do this, and it was my first time.” Her response was, “I’ll pay you.” I told my husband in disbelief. His response was, “Are you going to tell the people NO!” Before responding to the first inquiry, I received my second. Then, the next day a friend came to my house and paid me in cash for one. To God be the Glory, I continue to receive inquiries.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I fell in love with charcuterie. It started smoothly because of the season, Spring going into the Summer. I received so many orders and started doing events too. But once January hit and the orders decreased, I started feeling the financial struggle of not charging my worth and not having consistent orders. I immediately turned it into an LLC and quit my full-time job.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in customization. I create my charcuterie options based on the colors of particular themed events. I am most proud of the way my customers love me. They are my marketing team! I love my customer’s recommendations, and they help me share content across all social platforms. My customer service and “food art” charcuterie are what set me apart.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I love my collaborations, sponsors, incubator programs, and fellow women entrepreneurs; I am the exclusive charcuterie for Elaborate Outings(fine dining without walls). I catered for the grand opening of our Self-Love Museum. I was featured in Whatchu’ Doin’ Wilmington and Make It Public and also helped with the marketing side. I owe EVERYTHING to my beautiful family, who supports me and deals with my antics of the early morning and late night schedule of an entrepreneur. Can’t forget my sponsor Rosalie Figueroa MOM♥️
