Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Jones.
Hi Kari, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My passion for photography grew once I had my son. I was always trying to capture every little moment as they changed quickly. Life never slows down. However, when you take a photo, you are freezing a moment in time that you can hold on to forever. Lifestyle photography captures that moment in its truest form, telling your life story. It means so much being able to give my clients this gift. Today, I now capture all of life’s milestones, but newborn photography will always hold a special place in my heart.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it has been a smooth process to start my business. I truly love what I do! I started with friends and family that eventually turned into returning clients. You are constantly learning, and you find your creativity growing with every session. Not all sessions are a breeze. Sometimes the weather has other plans. Newborns get fussy, toddlers get restless, and pets want a treat. It all comes with the territory; you just take it all in stride and overcome the obstacles with grace.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently do various sessions—from newborn, maternity, child milestones, families, engagement, weddings, and even business headshots. I truly enjoy them, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. However, there is something about newborn lifestyle sessions that I love. Being able to capture those sweet moments of the new addition is what I love most. Typically these are taken at the client’s home. This truly gives these photos more emotion for telling their story.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Regarding finding a mentor, browsing Pinterest and other professional photographers’ social pages can help you decide what style of photography interests you. Networking for myself started as word of mouth and then gradually turned into social media and community involvement.
