Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyn Marie Bastos.
Hi Cyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Cyn Marie, and I’m an Executive Wellness Coach passionate about the intersection of personal and professional FreedOm. I moved to North Carolina two years ago from Tampa, Florida, after leaving a 12-year Executive Management career to start my FreedOm journey. I was at the peak of my career and thriving professionally when my entire personal life came crashing abruptly.
I was divorced and grieving my late father when my mom got diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. I had been thriving at surviving and did everything I could to not skip a beat, but the news of possibly losing my only surviving parent was earth-shattering. It was a wake-up call I listened to intently, and I was deeply called to question everything about my reality.
After years of doing traditional therapy and holistic healing, I still felt like something was missing and awakened to the realization that I was the only person who’d be able to find it. I spent the next five years getting training and certifications that taught me how to explore myself and pave my own pathway to Freedom. During my journey of learning how to serve myself, I reignited my passion for service and started a non-profit FreedOm Philosophy Collective.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My core belief is that there is no such thing as a smooth road, only moments in time where we find stillness to observe the view.
So much of my life was lived at an unsustainable pace, and once I finally let off the gas, I was horrified by the view around me. Looking back was even more terrifying, so I just continued to power through life’s moments until the moment life came crashing into me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a nonprofit founded to serve our community with accessible services and programs that celebrate people where they are and create space for them to become radically free.
As Ambassadors of FreedOm, we believe that every path to freedom is unique and serve to help others create their FreedOm Philosophy. As humanitarians and philanthropists, we serve to create a supporting and inclusive environment that cultivates community and belonging.
We offer a community and network of wellness professionals and volunteers, a university and library of accessible programs and course offerings, and counselors and space for services and community outreach.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
As a first-generation immigrant, I was raised to chase the American dream and earn my right to be here. I had two jobs at 14 years old and earned $10,000 to purchase my first vehicle. I graduated high school with an associate’s degree and powered through my Business Management degree to start my career early.
I barely had a childhood and worked tirelessly to prove to my parents that I appreciated the sacrifice they made for me. The road along the way was filled with resistance, which has allowed me to learn resilience and become who I am today.

This is truly an uplifting and motivating story. We need more inspirational people in the world and what Cyn has to offer through her non-profit can provide just that. A network of wellness professionals and volunteers sounds promising.
