Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyazia Johnson.

Hi Tyazia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I always knew I wanted to become my own boss. When I was younger, I used always dream about owning my own business, whether it was in beauty, fashion, or any other line of business. I could see my future so vividly. I started off by practicing on my family and friends’ hair, trying different styles I had seen on social media. Soon after I graduated high school, In 2017, I attended cosmetology school and obtained my cosmetology license in 2018.

Since then, I worked, practiced, and promoted my work daily. Working as a full-time hairstylist. 3 years later I was able to open my own beauty suite located in Rocky Mount NC, we previously celebrated our one-year anniversary in August. The whole process of getting the salon renovated and up and running was a challenge in itself but the journey and end results are what kept me going. I’m proud of myself for chasing my dreams. Giving the girls a luxury experience is what I aim for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming an entrepreneur has been one of my life’s hardest yet rewarding experiences. It is not as easy as it sounds.

You literally have to sit and teach yourself new skills, put in the time, and the work, and be dedicated to the lifestyle.

Some nights I would be up all night organizing and planning, just to get right back up in the mornings to work. Some days are good, some days are not. One week I may be fully booked, one week I may have only 2 clients, but every day I keep going. I keep trying and promoting myself because I love what I do and I know in the end my hard work will pay off. I continue to keep faith and trust in god and the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a 23-year-old entrepreneur and licensed cosmetologist. Specializing in treating and growing your natural hair.

One of my specialties is braiding, however, I have a variety of services that I offer such as luxury silk presses, Sleek Ponytails, Tape-ins, and micro-links. My personality, work ethic, and kind heart set me apart from others. I always strive to be welcoming, understanding, and trustworthy.

When my clients come in I want them to feel comfortable and relaxed while getting pampered. It makes me feel accomplished when my clients look in the mirror and smile, leaving my clients feeling beautiful and satisfied. Although most of my clientele comes from social media, a great deal also comes from word of mouth. It makes me proud that knowing that my ladies could’ve gone to anyone anywhere else, they chose me instead.
