Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalyn Canady.
Rosalyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Senior year in High School in 1997. My coaches made me a doctor’s appointment to see what was going on with my legs. (To stop at that moment, I tell people that was my Obedience to GOD because he was telling me to STOP; re-evaluate my life or be prepared to do what was coming before me). I went to the doctor and x-rays were taken of my legs. The images came back and they were a bad sight to see.
Instead of shin splints, I had hairline fractures in both my legs. He told us that if I would have continued playing AAU there was a possibility that I would have broken both of my legs at the shinbone and would have resulted in me being in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. Doc gave me some instructions from that day on to drink milk and water on a daily basis until Colleges were to begin for the Fall. I left that appointment somewhat with total disappointment and was ready to get home to cry my eyes out as I did. In the midst of all that, I got down on my knees in my bedroom and I had an emotional conversation with GOD. In that moment from what I remember he told me what my purpose in life was right then to follow the instructions that the doctor gave me and he would never leave nor forsake me; also to not put more on me than I could bare.
He gave me a passage at that time that I begin to say here and there. ENJOY YOUR DASH.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When the Almighty told me to be OBEDIENT and that HIS WILL WAS MY WAY. I have always found the positive in anything that I thought maybe negative. And would always say to myself or others. Look at the BIGGER PICTURE. Someone somewhere is always going through something worse than we may think.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am called the city Roc or mayor Canady. Born and raised on the east side of Wilson. Living mother and two older brothers. Played basketball in middle and high school. College professional overseas in Russia and China. Heavily involved in most community events. Well-known group president of the Kountry Girlz. Received several community awards. Now have my shirt brand out called enjoy your dash!!!!
What sets me different from others is I always think of the BIGGER PICTURE and not do anything that will block any blessings known or unknown
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
As a child in a family of three. I am the baby. My older brothers the ages between us are 9 and 10 years. When I was born we lived on Green Street in Wilson NC. To see now how God’s Plan is his script for our life. Because we moved to Narroway Street behind our house was a full basketball court with a goal at each end. It was destined to be nothing but greatness.
Watching my brothers at a young age and all the older men and neighborhood kid’s battling at the court day in and day out. I was so small but on the sidelines watching them perfect their craft. As years passed then it became my time to get on the court and show what I had been learning along the way from watching and trying things on my own. Always playing against older men and the boys, I had become the unstoppable little girl of the neighborhood and an ICON.
