N’Dea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a love and deep interest in beauty. For as long as I can remember I’ve loved makeup and doing home facials. I used to force everyone in the house to let me rub some soap on their face. Of course, I grew older and began learning the importance of skin health. I worked at Ulta Beauty for almost two years and fell in love with skincare. But I noticed the natural sector of the skincare world was relatively small. I have very sensitive skin so many products would irritate my skin and I hated it.
So I put matters into my own hands and began making products for myself. I soon realized that the products were great and that others may also enjoy them. At the time I was finishing my last year of college, majoring in Fashion and Textile Management. I used my background in fashion business marketing and began to sell my own product. It took some time to get the brand completely off the ground but I soon got the courage to share Brand Nu Skincare with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is any new business ever smooth? I think my biggest obstacle is finding the balance between being an entrepreneur as well as working for someone else. Finding the balance and giving your own business the right amount of focus can be difficult when you work other jobs or have other projects to do for someone else.
It’s easy to put off tasks for your own business because you are the boss and no one is going to tell you that you’ve done something wrong. But you quickly realize, though there is not an exact person reprimanding you for not doing certain tasks or doing them in a certain time frame, your business can suffer. I have learned that the best way to conquer this obstacle is to always make time for yourself even if that means setting a time in your schedule just to focus on your business.

Brand Nu Skincare is an all-natural skincare brand. We specialize in body care that promotes healthy skin for all skin types. Initially, I created the products to help with issues that I was experiencing such as hyperpigmentation, hydration, and evening skin texture. Brand Nu Skincare has products like body scrubs, lips scrubs, oil, and body butter. What sets Brand Nu apart from others is that all products are handmade and made of all-natural ingredients.
I personally make and inspect every item. I want our customers to feel the attention that I bring to my product with every little detail. I am so proud of myself and my brand because I have stayed true to my initial ideas and myself. If someone buys a product from Brand Nu, they will always have a piece of me. I love to express myself through everything I do.
Therefore, whether it is the website, the Instagram page, or a body scrub the customer will feel as if they have gone through a true experience full of self-care and positivity.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is by far playing in makeup and dressing up.
As I earlier stated, I have always been into beauty. I remember my grandmother buying me two huge cases full of makeup. My perfect day would be dressing up, and playing in my makeup for hours. Some looks were definitely better than others but I always had so much fun doing them.
